As someone who briefly dabbled in guitar a decade back, but formally trained in Piano, this video is absolute gold The day I learnt the exact parallel versions of these exercises on Piano, I felt the whole Keybed open up to me, I hope to relive that same journey now for the guitar Godspeed 🙏 Comment from : @nirmitshah1990 |
When does he stop talking about himself and give us a simple lesson Horrible Comment from : @TheSwanManVegas |

When my son was about 6 he said he wanted to learn guitar He favored his left hand so we thought he was left handed I had heard that Hendrix took a right handed guitar and strung it backwards so I bought a Squire reversed the nut and strung it backwards Piece of cake I thought until I tried to teach him a few cowboy chords HOLY CRAP! All of the sudden I became mentally challenged Comment from : @LeRoyHuff-e6m |

This video is good entertainment for experienced players but confusing for beginners When talking about how you would relearn guitar, you probably should show some tab or chord diagrams 26:06 Thinking in “major” and “minor” boxes can take a beginner a long way Watching you noodle at a fairly fast speed for many is not helpful without a close up view and no fret chart For many, any advancement is hard earned and comes over a life long learning experience that can be a roller coaster of successes and frustrations Comment from : @kh485 |

Arpeggio, hummm Hammer on Hummm😢brI can’t help but laugh because this is so foreign Comment from : @TheJsttzn |

Love your videos So I just turned 64 and have two beautiful guitars that have been sitting in their cases since I purchased them, a 1997 Martin MTV Unplugged acoustic and a Les Paul tobacco sunburst (without the pick guard) never have seen one like it AND, I just purchased a Fender Ultra Luxe two tone sunburst Strat and want to finally get serious about playing I live in a remote area so online lessons are my only option, preferably just learning TAB I'm hearing Fender Play is the best way for someone like me to go, can you make any recommendations? Thank you Comment from : @Hingle_McCringleberry_Yo |
Hey man, there were so many things that I couldn't figure out in learning the guitar and you've dropped so many hidden gems in this video Thank you so much I'm gonna buy some of your lessons and check them out 🤘 Comment from : @SandyBenjamin |

OK Rick this video caught my eye I made it about 10 1/2 minutes in I am a beginner guitarist working on intermediate in the last two years I found your videos and I tried to watch them and keep up now just recently my daughter has started playing guitar and so I’m always looking for things for me to learn as well as things for me to share with her in the things that you were saying in the start this video do not seem like a good place to start for an absolute beginner It does seem very relevant and that it would pay off in the long run to get these more intricate things under your belt But I know if on day one, somebody hit me with some of these, I wouldn’t be playing guitar today 😅 Comment from : @civicstar982 |
Juju is afraid of competition Longstreet is better overall IMHO, plus he’s apparently not afraid of competing with Maiva Moreover, he appears to be willing to wait and learn the college game/playbook before he potentially starts Therefore, I believe Longstreet has the higher ceiling Fight on! ✌🏾 Comment from : @ZabDevin |

For the noobs: brbrScales/arpeggios/chords can be played across the neck because notes on the guitar repeat accross strings If you master scales across the neck you basically know the guitar at a deeper level That means you can move any way through the guitar, up, down, diagonally, etc not just in the first position and the octave up that most people teach as the basicsbrbrThis is also superior because:brbr1 finger positions in many scales are the same depending on the position brbr2 You start memorizing notes across the fingerboard by default Comment from : @defnlife1683 |

2 months after you uploaded this video, I suffered a massive ischemic stroke that nearly ended my life ans left me fully paralyzed on my left side That's partial paralysis 9 months later but I lost 46 years of guitar and have been unable to get it back I never made it to world class but there wasn't much Van Halen I couldn't tackle and was proficient enough to give a passing rendition of Cliffs of Dover But it is all gone and it's been difficult to adjust to life without it So I need something like this and thank you! This is a nice video, I haven't picked a guitar since I was around 18, it was fun but with no youtube, no speaking English at the time and on a rural town I had NO idea how any of this worked now at 33 I want to try again, just bought your course and I'm planning to get a guitar soon-ish, wish me luck Comment from : @MakiNoAtorie |

" a simple pattern like that" Flol, OK Comment from : @jenniferfox8382 |

I am a professional musician and have great respect for Rick, but if I were teaching new players, like I used to when I was younger, I would not waste time with scales Get them learning a song they love That's it Why? B/c more important than anything is tapping into their love of music They will be motivated to practice a riff or song they always wanted to play and motivation to keep it rolling is the KEY! They'll lose interest and motivation real quick if they are playing scales Comment from : @dshephardcomposer |

Justin Guitar is far and away the best basic guitar instruction on the internet He knows exactly what mistakes you’ll make, tells you how to fix them, and gives you the fundamentals, all the way up to very advanced stuff It’s obvious he’s been teaching for a very long time, as he’s a true pro Go straight there and learn from him Comment from : @jordancook1668 |
Rick, it's stuff like THIS, and hundreds of other lessons and LIKE IT, is WHY YOU, are the F-ING MAN! YOU are SO far AHEAD of all these would be "teachers" on YouTube, it's like comparing Pavarotti, to the kid on the bus that's giving you a headache with his Boombox and trying to sing with it! I MEAN it, Rick, YouTube, and the MUSIC industry, in the National Endowment for the Arts, should give you a damn AWARD, for God's sake, for Promoting the ART OF MUSIC, and EDUCATING the WORLD, in MUSIC!!! Rick - I was a cellist, too! Was a music performance major for the instrument and went on to be an occasional teacher and orchestra and gig musician It was fun I also play piano, guitar and bass guitar About seven years ago, I stopped playing following a wrist injury But last month, my dad died, and I inherited his Ibanez acoustic guitar and bass guitar, really nice instruments So I decided to get back into playing My chops are rusty, but I'm really enjoying the beautiful, clear tones on these instruments and I look forward to playing with some people in my church Jazz and classical music, folk and gospel -- it's all great It'll be fun to come up with arrangements (something that I used to really love doing) for the enjoyment of my community Comment from : @cellospot |

I love these tutorials as a 70 year old and also started playing in 1964 just after seeing the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show, since I basically lived so far in the woods I had to come out to hunt there was no one to learn from, except Dad who knew 3 chords Comment from : @BillCrantsMusicVideos-lt9il |

It would be nice if you framed your camera so that you can see all of what bith hands are doing On this video, you can only see all of the fretwork but only half of the picking Comment from : @Stophey |

this guy would make a perfect live action Rick Sanchez Comment from : @TheumbrellaMG |

I mean this feedback with the best intentions Do you truly feel that whipping through two positions for scales you didn't explain at all is a good way to start a video themed around how you'd start learning guitar? This kind of video will do nothing but get newbies to put down their guitars and stop playing You need to empathize with your target audience, not show off Comment from : @nudinatorz |
would yo do a course on how to play a hammond / lever organ? Comment from : @aiwcots |

Not a lot of educational content … constant advertisement for his book though brbrNot sure I’d pay money for a guy’s book until he proves he can teach something Comment from : @christopherrey453 |

The way I would relearn the guitar would be first changing hands I would pluck with the left and press with the right I do too many wrong things to correct My hands have acquired bad habits that would be very hard if not impossible to correct at this point I would have to change hands to start anew I would also start with the best teacher I can affordbrbrIn addition, I would first do some relaxing exercises before starting to play each session I would make sure I am fully relaxed before I play I would practice very, very slow and never to the point of exhaustion I would play more songs and less exercises I would play in public everything I learn on my study time I would get up every twenty minutes of practice to stretch my back and prevent the horrible back pains I would learn from the beginning how to breathe with the music I will practice as if God and the angels were my only audience I would never compare myself to others and would be happy for their progress brbrIf I had to do it again, I would not let drugs or alcohol take precedence over the music I would not try to play things I cannot really play I would choose only tunes that come naturally for me to play I do not longer believe in challenging oneself in music I did it for years and this “challenging oneself”, only resulted in tension, lack of flow, and lack of relaxation brbrIf I had to do it again, I would never make playing guitar difficult in any way I would only play songs that can be played without much effort and thinking I would not play while worrying about the difficult passages ahead of me I would always have fun and will stop playing as soon as it ceases to be fun brbrIf I started again, I would treat every single note not only as parts of the whole, but as ends in themselves Every note would tell a story all on its own I would play very slowly listening with attention to each note I play Would let them ring until they are no more brbrI would do this if I could start again Comment from : @TosyaKaivo |

What do you do when you have small hands and short fingers? I have to move my wrist to hit the notes Comment from : @ptrevadactyl |
