I am trying to learn how to play by reading music, am i doing it wrong ? I do feel sometimes that iam making things harder for my self but idk how to approach learning differently My goal is to learn how to play chords and to accompany those chords with some rhythm, any advice?

Music like languages was passed from person to person by word of mouth before people invented writing for permanent record keeping Standard notations of recording Western music is only a few hundred years oldbrIn the past people relied on learning songs by ear Today Pop musicians would play by earbrSome people like myself are better playing by ear than reading Between memorizing pieces vs reading the sheet it's a personal choice than right & wrong People who are not good at reading can improve by reading more new pieces The ones who are good readers but not playing by ear should focus on improving that by listening to sound recordings

I’m self taught and have been playing for about 10 years since I was 9 But I’m blind so I’ve never even tried reading music Idk if that’s good or bad but it’s a good job I have a good memory haha

I started learning to play the piano a week ago, self-taught (for now), and before that I watched a LOT of your videos, and advice like this is what I'm using to guide me It seems to be the right way, perhaps the slower way, but I'd rather learn to read AND play music than just play, because later I know I will need to read the music I want to play Some of it is sinking in, some not, but I am encouraged by the reality: it's only been a week, so keep going and it will all become clear

Literally described my struggle so wellbrbrThe staff can be incredibly TINY, that's my big problem I don't have long-sightedness but I like it zoomed in like 50 times I can recognise each note easier (although still incredibly slow) And this isn't an option when playing from a book or paper
