Make sure you do not close a bank account with a credit card if you are planning to request credit in the near future (ex mortgage) since it will affect your credit score Cancel your credit card once you have closed your mortgage deal

First time I switched banks, I closed all my accounts and they gave me a cashier's check that I took to the new bank immeadiatly to open my new accounts They ended up holding the cashier's check for like 10 days before releasing the funds Akward Next time I switched, I left all accounts open until I was all set at new bank Talk about learning the hard way haha

You can always ask your bank to change to an account without fees For my bank it is six months without overdraft or anything like that and they will take away monthly fees
