This biog is useless He did not produce the plays so it is a waste of our time He could barely sign his name He had no education (Grammar school? no record) he had no extensive travel experience He had no experience of statecraft, so he could not have write half of the plays Also, there is NO evidence of his "budding literary interests"

I think he wrote the plays and that he and Anne Hathaway had a lusty start that became a full load for a young man who needed to express himself in London I am currently portraying Anne Hathaway in a production of THE BOOK OF WILL and that's what I am putting into my work He DID, after all, come back to New Place in 1611 and live there with Anne until his death I'm making up a few juicy secrets of our life together that will feed me for my performance in Lauren Gunderson's beautifully written and researched gift/play For me, I am saying that I (Anne) was his first, but certainly not his last

A good overview of Shakespeare's life and works I thought mention might have been made of Ben Jonson's eulogaic poem to his contemporary and friend in the introduction to the First Folio It gives probably the most detailed, as well as laudatory, account of Shakespeare's character that we have - 'sweet swan of Avon' indeed

Local man in a European backwater (a genius) dies never dreaming his plays would be spread off the edge of map to be taught to school children in countries that didn't exist (NZ, Australia) and in languages he didn’t know of (Hindi for example) He is a genius, the greatest, but by rights he should have been a parochial possession of the English, not the property of the world The whole thing, the man, and the people of that small damp island, is so improbable, so extraordinary, that I find it harder, the more I think of it, to get my head around it all

I take David Tennant's view on Shakespeare, which is it doesn't matter who wrote it, it matters that it exists snd has been preserved and continues to be presented He also points out that Julian Fellows put forth that only those with elite educations can understand Shakespeare Tennant hails from the middle class and is one of the world's greatest and prolific Shakespearian actor's of all time
