yes supply and demand it would make outstanding loans nearly impossible to pay off however a hyper inflation scenario is not entirely undesirable if you have lots of outstanding long term loans (for us usually house car cred card etc) as long as income fairly matches the inflation rate you can pay off the loan with cash that is worthless (not worthless just worth less) it pisses off creditors and they are less likely to loan moneywhich causes recessions/depressions

you are talking on the books inflation/deflation is directly proportional to the amount of cash in the system less cash equals deflation (cost of goods and services go down) more cash equates to inflation (costs go up) when inflation got out of controll they used to raise the interest to get excess cash out of the system the only way to pay back the fed is to spend less period no other way around it
