8:40 Inflation is a double-edged sword as opposed to our "friend" in your example Sure, the increase in our cost of living, derived from higher prices in the goods and services we consume, is a good opportunity to demand a higher wage Such that, higher wages would help workers battle the increase in price for the many non-neogitable purchases we make in our day to day lives However, the issue is deeper than this analogy Inflationary pressures are first present from an increase in producer costs, increase in commodity prices, money supply, etc Now, assuming higher producer costs are passed onto the consumer, the ordinary person would begin to feel these pressures Demanding a higher wage to tackle these pressures is an easy cop-out, such that it only elevates the issue in the short-term and has more profound long-term implications For example, demanding higher wages, and subsequently receiving such an increase, would also increase the costs to the producer Such costs would ultimately be passed onto the consumer again, creating a vicious cycle of growing inflation Inflation increases -> Workers recieve higher wages -> Firm(s) increase prices to combat higher wage costs -> Inflation increases brbrNote: I'm an undergraduate economics student, I'm still learning so if this comment doesn't make sense conceptually please correct me Comment from : @easterncarti8645 |

When I left uni with a business degree I couldn't get a job, left London and survived building websites and doing digital work, got my first break at 30k in 2019 and this year I've reached 75k living in the southwest and working from home So many people struggle to get an opportunity, but once I got it I ran with it Comment from : @spannerDestroyer |

I'm surprised that, when you talk about being discouraged from discussing your own salary at the start, you don't also point out that it is completely illegal for any employer to discourage the discussion of pay/salary or reprimand you for any such discussion, especially if it takes place outside of contracted work hours Too many people get paid less because they won't discuss salary with their coworkers Comment from : @dinnydorf |
I'm nervous about watching this vid, probably underselling myself but competition is tough, and I need to earn something Comment from : @freelancehoneybadger5900 |

Try to be a third better If the average credit score in your area is 600, shoot for 780 If the average house is costing 600k in your area, try to get one for 450k If the average deposit is 20 percent, try to put down 26 Or if the average deposit is 60k, shoot for 80k Average salary at your age is 20k, try to get 26k You can do this for savings, expenses, income, investments etc etc etc a simple rule to get you wealthier and allow you to pass on more to the next generation Good luck everybody Comment from : @10countboxing46 |

Since 2017 I've gone from £18k to £28k to £41k, all in the same company with just one promotion but various pay rises including one of 10k this year, taking me from being slightly underpaid to overpaid for my role and responsibilities Comment from : @pedazodetorpedo |

What I find shocking is that even if you earn above the national average for your age between inflation and social media it doesn’t feel like it Either way this video made me happy I chose cyber security at age 19 😢 In 5/6 years I went from £9k (apprentice) to £50k as he mentioned the industry you chose dictates your ceiling Comment from : @ShizzleGaming14 |

2:07 only about a decade ago, every job advert started the salary range the role offered Now, virtually no hint is given, so businesses can get away paying the minimum they can get away with My last employer used to claim their pay was fair because they are validated by a 3rd party bureau Except the job descriptions would say your job involved task x, but everyone did x, y, z, a, b and c So everyone was actually under paid for what they do Comment from : @bigboldbicycle |
For the past 30 years, I've used a simple rule: you should be earning 1,000 x your age, or more up to age of 65 at which point if you've done all the right things, you'll have no mortgage and will be ready to retire (The best way to boost your salary is to change jobs every few years, unless you work at a business that pays above inflation pay rises) Comment from : @OneAndOnlyMe |

Nireland is typically a low wage economy compared with the rest of the UK, so cost of living rises are being felt sharply here hence the large swing in wage increases I have recently been forced to look for a new job being at risk of redundancy and was surprised how busy the job market is and managed to find an advantage of the situation I found myself in Test the market folks Comment from : @glennsheppard3320 |

I live in the North, I'm 27 years old and make 50k a year And all I do is help build static caravans, yeah it's a skilled job, but I never went to uni, and failed most things in school Now I have a mortgage on a three bed house, own a £15k car outright, and my monthly outgoings are only £611 a month I put away £1500 a month into savings Sometimes I dont know if I just got lucky but it does show that there are jobs out there that you dont need to have a higher education for that do pay good money Comment from : @Wheal1995 |

Thanks Damien, you are doing wonders for my mental health… Loving your pep talks! You are doing great work friend! Comment from : @Mike-yd1vh |
