Here in the US we have building codes, permit requirements & other rules & regulations that make living like this much harder, especially if you have a family & need more space If cps finds out you have no electricity, running water or plumbing, they can take your kids away Plus, even if you pay off your land, they still tax you on it, meaning you can't just check out of society You have to have money coming in if you want to keep that land you already paid for It's a corrupt system that keeps us enslaved I would love to do this, but everything is so expensive that I don't know how we will ever be able to save enough to even get property Comment from : @nicolew1987

This man seems more normal A lot of people are so detached from nature, and their own world is living in a suburban or city life, and that's their own worldview They don't recognize the need for nature enough and/or don't have respect for nature Many animals don't even have a place to rest, or eat what they were intended to eat because most land is owned by people I don't understand why it's like this I think it's a lack of discipline of children growing up, that's why it's so modernized and there's a lack of respect for people and animals and nature Comment from : @omarayyash3275

I know someone who bought an old single floor stables, took 14 years to add an upper floor, a wind turbine, a well, solar pv, a poly tunnel He went all out to be sufficient as possible The main barrier was the council planning department who blocked at every step Eventually he became as sufficient as you can get living off grid and out of society After a full year of working the land, growing food etc I asked him what it was like He told me that he was tired out, working everyday day 7-11 there was always something to plan for, worry about and mitigate if anything went wrong Plus he had the loans to pay off for the turbine etcbrbrI was completely shocked a year later that he had taken an engineers job with PepsiCo Comment from : @cpcnw

I wish I could ask him one question that plagues my conscience: If his rationale is primarily ecological, why use the woodstove? Biomass definitely isn't ecologically friendly, but I too love the aesthetic, sound, work, and joy of heating by wood Maybe there's more to it--eg, if you use extremely efficient woodstoves and only when necessary (ie, bundling up), but I truly don't know enough to comment otherwise Any thoughts/comments/suggestions?
