Even though I love them, watches are the worst money investment ever, specially the ones that devalue after you purchase them Watches are not like cell phones or TV's that can improve your day to day life, watches are all about vanity and material possession at its finestbrSo IMHO any good quality watch over $200 is just money wasted and luxury possession; there's no "good money for value" when it comes to those watches But that being said there's no other accessory that gives me the confidence and happiness that a watch does

It’s hard to beat the Ball Trainmaster Cannonball for value for an introductory luxury watch There are quite a few costing several thousand more than this watch that do not have the build quality, complications and ruggedness of this particular Ball watch brand

I don't think you can go wrong with a 1980's Rolex Air-King-Date You can pick them up for less than £3k An extra £400 or so will get you a full service by a Rolex authorised watchmaker and you'll be good for the next fifteen years Maybe too small for some, but I never liked big watches myself A bonus is that this model has never been copied/faked, so there's never any doubt about originality It wears nicely too, with its small(ish) size and plastic crystal's light weight

If you are looking for good deals in more expensive watches don't forget to look at sales and discounts on websites of mainstream High Street ADs My best deal ever was a Nomos sitting on Goldsmiths website last New Year sale, but I've done very well from Beaverbrooks, Ernest Jones, CW Sellors, HSamuel, and some smaller brick and mortar ADs too

I picked up one of those 90s Oris pointer dates last month for about £850, totally agree that the older models offer the best value The same beautiful design but the addition of a guilloche texture dial, applied indices and a two tone case and bracelet, for almost half the price of the current models!
