Born this day in 1902 – Carl Rogers, American psychologist and academicbrbrMy university psychology professor spent so much time trying to debunk Rogers in favor of Skinner that it drove me toward him Comment from : @pastor-tom-sims |
when he said he stretched his empathetic abilities out of care but thought he didn't do well only to learn it did have an impact on his client, I burst into tears That's so moving and exactly how I feel when I'm trying to support family and friends What an emotional video for being less than 2 minutes long You can tell he's a good man Comment from : @jkrop8222 |
That's a great point There is a tendency to theoretically analyse thoughts, behaviour, the past and the subconscious But we sometimes forget the most obvious, being a good and trusted friend Comment from : @SilviaViolin |
Telling someone to accept themselves or that you accept them just the way you are is the most nihilistic thing anyone has ever come up with What does that say about your future self You're okay just the Way You are No A much better message would be to let someone know "you're not all you could be and you know it" Yeah it seems a bit harsh and doesn't feel as good but it gets better results You don't have to be cruel and rude about it but stop lying to people Call Roger's had good intentions, true He just didn't get this particular thing right Comment from : @blakebunch4485 |
This is a good idea generally, but WARNING: Don't only be a "friend" Some of your patients need friendship, but some need your skill So many therapists offer only friendship and listening, instead of digging deep and finding answers It's lazy Comment from : @television1088 |
Like a best friend , so maybe what people really need is a good friend or someone to trust Comment from : @Amyi13 |

Person- centered therapy is the only form of real therapy How can others be called therapies if they’re not person- centered? brIt’s respectful And it requires a certain- alas, rare- qualities of the soul of the therapist ie healthy intellectual humility, openness, respect Comment from : @claudiamanta1943 |

I’ve been a therapist for over a decade now I’m primarily mindfulness based in terms of technique or adding to what a person knows how to relate to their emotions and thoughts But let me tell you, Carl Rogers is at the heart of any good therapy His understanding of the human to human connection transcends his era or any other We are deeply, deeply social and intrapersonal creatures seeking acceptance, understanding, care, and love just as much if not more, than knowledge When in doubt, be Carl Rogers Comment from : @ironhead108 |

This approach to validate whatever the client says, kind of like just go along with it and yes the client all session long, make excuses for whatever the issues the client hasis extremely ineffective Just saying Comment from : @sofiamiau3420 |

“””I met you””” in college when taking my bachelor in clinical psychology back in my country Brazil I fall in love with your theory it all made sense to me Today I am a Masters Mental health counselor in USA I got closer to you :) and even more to all yr teachings Self Actualization of the organism is mindfulness Is just go with the organismic follow and balance it without judgement or stagnation brEmpathy is one of the most important principles that I learned in your theory when experiencing with clientsbrbrYr essence still works among us !brThank you for reminding us of being essentially more human Or to practice who we really are !brbrAnna Comment from : @annainnsaei4681 |

My guide !brThank you Rogers Comment from : @annainnsaei4681 |

Sorry Rogers but I don't believe that a simple interview would've changed this young men's life Especially after you said the interview didn't go particularly well Rogers is so optimistic about the power of his approach and seems to confuse correlation with causation Comment from : @nelsonferreira-aulasdearte |

We need to tell all the truth here Three men, Carl Rogers, Abraham Maslow and William Coulson all worked together to take some of their counseling, non-directive, self-actualization theories into the classroom and did serious damage to a lot of children and to America in general All three of them expressed misgivings and regrets before their deaths Read all about it in a brief little book HIDDEN DANGER IN THE CLASSROOM, by Pearl Evans, available on used book sites for just a few dollars Well worth the read Comment from : @Dean7Co |
