when he said he stretched his empathetic abilities out of care but thought he didn't do well only to learn it did have an impact on his client, I burst into tears That's so moving and exactly how I feel when I'm trying to support family and friends What an emotional video for being less than 2 minutes long You can tell he's a good man

That's a great point There is a tendency to theoretically analyse thoughts, behaviour, the past and the subconscious But we sometimes forget the most obvious, being a good and trusted friend

Telling someone to accept themselves or that you accept them just the way you are is the most nihilistic thing anyone has ever come up with What does that say about your future self You're okay just the Way You are No A much better message would be to let someone know "you're not all you could be and you know it" Yeah it seems a bit harsh and doesn't feel as good but it gets better results You don't have to be cruel and rude about it but stop lying to people Call Roger's had good intentions, true He just didn't get this particular thing right

This is a good idea generally, but WARNING: Don't only be a "friend" Some of your patients need friendship, but some need your skill So many therapists offer only friendship and listening, instead of digging deep and finding answers It's lazy

Person- centered therapy is the only form of real therapy How can others be called therapies if they’re not person- centered? brIt’s respectful And it requires a certain- alas, rare- qualities of the soul of the therapist ie healthy intellectual humility, openness, respect

Sorry Rogers but I don't believe that a simple interview would've changed this young men's life Especially after you said the interview didn't go particularly well Rogers is so optimistic about the power of his approach and seems to confuse correlation with causation

We need to tell all the truth here Three men, Carl Rogers, Abraham Maslow and William Coulson all worked together to take some of their counseling, non-directive, self-actualization theories into the classroom and did serious damage to a lot of children and to America in general All three of them expressed misgivings and regrets before their deaths Read all about it in a brief little book HIDDEN DANGER IN THE CLASSROOM, by Pearl Evans, available on used book sites for just a few dollars Well worth the read
