Terrible Comment from : @sanjmalik6282 |

I know some people have commented on the lack of empathy and congruence However, that is not something I feel you can learn from others, it is something you develop as you grow I have no issues with that but I have found it immensely helpful to learn from the techniques shown here Comment from : @outgoing_introvert |

Please please please, I mean this sincerely, don’t model person centered therapy after this This is so against what the theory stands for Comment from : @Summonick2 |
Boring Comment from : @deanwalsh3871 |
Thanks Comment from : @marcianosantos2531 |

Im glad i came across your channel,im a psychology student and this is really helpful for me Comment from : @esthernjiru4169 |
I would struggle with this type therapist There were no answers Alot of affirmation of clients feelings Is this why people go to therapy for years? Comment from : @Ed-vi8lj |
This explains why I don’t like thearpy, if you are a client definitely research modalities that are more for your personality and needs Comment from : @Degrassigirl2530 |
😮 the client's leg bended like that gives me anxiety 😅 Comment from : @mariazetta7209 |
Theres no building rapport? Comment from : @DesireeGromia-nz3kj |
This is not person centred therapy, the therapist did not pick up on any feelings instead she introduced new feelings, it was therapist lead not client centered Comment from : @sabrthecat |

I watched the video as emailed to me by one of my students and after searching for it again, can see that it was never intended to be any other than a demonstration of skills Having said that, l believe it would have value as a classroom resource, not because it is a good and realistic example of person centred counselling, but because it is a highly flawed example and at best, because questions are asked when reflective responses should have been given, an example of an integrated model with person centred and cbt Students need to consider this if using it to support their skills work assignments The fast pace is misleading too, if you try to work with your client at the pace that is possible with a script you are soon going to tie yourself (and your client) in knots rather than create a therapeutic safe space Remember that is a role play by someone who thinks the core conditions are strategies You students know that's incorrect, don't you? Comment from : @christinebennett7828 |
This comes across as a scripted student assignment role play rather than a real person centred interaction Empathy, unconditional positive regard and congruence are attitudes not strategies Comment from : @christinebennett7828 |
I respect the previous comment on this video; however, I also have great respect for the role play that is exemplified here As a first year grad student studying Rogers and humanistic psychology, I profited greatly from watching this, albeit scripted, thorough and earnest example of actual Rogerian therapy I learned a lot and thank you for helping me on my journey Comment from : @Sundardevsaha-e3k |
I am just starting to do my Counselling training and found this immensely useful I found the techniques I was looking for as early examples Yes it was devoid of emotion but that allowed me to look for the basic skills as outlined and knowing I would bring my own to the table almost like a blank canvas Thanks Comment from : @TrishaWotton |
Loved thisthank you for making it Comment from : @kaushilasharma4113 |
Thank you for this model situation The demonstration shows me what is the role of the therapist Comment from : @TTbelis |
This is very informative, thank you so much for posting! The comments seem so harsh I hope you keep doing your good work! Comment from : @SelfcareforBodyMindSpirit |
2:17 starts directing and suggesting words for her :( ASK about feelings, don't assume Comment from : @wolfiemedia |
Don't like this demonstration How could you imagine replying using these lines to a real teenage young girl? Comment from : @bloodherz9011 |
Not natural flow, client reading off a prepared script Looks very staged, stiff in role play for both individuals Comment from : @josephmolloy7632 |
The therapy and the video was very helpful; but the notes weren't necessary I think you need to diagnose the girl in pink with amnesia because she couldn't remember why she went to therapy She had to write everything down as a reference I understand notes, but that's literally her life on paper Oh and also, I'm no doctor, but looking at her feet, she might want to get her right foot checked out before it bends into another dimension Comment from : @xdz70175 |
Bunch of black magic occultism bullshit Comment from : @Roscoesadie |
This is not empathy - this is active listening mirroring parrot bullshit - rfom a scripted pair od plastic people - and so a very poor example of what we are talking about - Your own recent disclosure and the phoenix and Death Tarot Card is more closely aligned to what it should be and I am not as good as Dr B, who uses only this in his practice for the past more than 30 years - He is brilliant with it - Comment from : @athanasiapoulos4203 |
Yet again this quack is merely regurgitating what the customer has said to her In what possible world is this therapeutic? Pseudoscience is too generous a term Comment from : @christopherjohnson-cu9nr |
Start to let her know how her future can be by listening to an older head This would absolutely bore me Comment from : @stephenmair5300 |
'And if his love for you is based on a picture, what is the good in that'? Umm, judgement/assumption/leading/dad not there and can't defend himself to that one! Oh dear, scripted piece of rubbish (sorry, judgement!) Comment from : @redflame2fire |
Thanks for this example I especially appreciate you took the time at the beginning to highlight the core conditions of the approach- I would love to be counselled by you in real life lol Comment from : @Sam_A_Sam |
Whats with her right foot ? :P Comment from : @Pmz604 |
What about exploring the possibility of the client talking to the father!! Is that an option in PCT??? Comment from : @greyline1012 |
Didn't really care for this role-play I really like the theory of person centered and the influence that it can make on the client Comment from : @kaitlynforaker9832 |
This is not person centered please can therapist and educators out there stop doing this Let's clear this up, person centred counselling is not forced or a role play It's about engaging at an existential level through the development of a therapeutic relationship The natural process of empathy and the other conditions of therapy are established in a natraul way allowing the relationship to deepen It's at the level of meeting each other that healing takes place This is a deep meeting and one that is not forced or directed by any party It's not a strategy or technique Please before you demonstrate this approach understand it fully Comment from : @hurky38 |
reading from the scrips so unrealhard to focus on therapy knowing its just reading off paper Comment from : @herchallenge |
Not an expert here, but felt that the "life coach" sound very "dry" (even that is a demonstration video)Not sure how this conversation would look for real In my opinion, frustrated 16 yer old demands answers, which simply not going to get, however, for me there is not interaction, no bound, nothing the teenager can hold on to Sorry "I can't", " I wish" simply thrown in the airdidn't felt any empathy at all Comment from : @marcinjanczarski3871 |
i feel the same as the girl! not like i dont want a good life for myself but i want it for me, not for him expectations are such a burden Comment from : @CassandraAveolii |
I have to do a role play tomorrow for class thank you for making this video to have a better understanding Comment from : @katnia552 |
There are quite a few closed questions and body language is not being mirrored but it is still useful as a starting point in person centered / Rogerian therapy, thanks for taking the time to make it and post! Comment from : @user-pc3bt2zw7c |
Is the girl in the pink top a ballerina?? Comment from : @mattdaaamon9217 |
That's nice and clear Many thanks for making this video I'm just starting my journey as a Hypnotherapist and studying Rogerian therapy is part of that Comment from : @HereIsmarcus |
The therapist's body language is really good Comment from : @melonsoda123 |
It would have been nice to see the participants more relaxed, rather than just reading a script There is very little emotion being displayedthis distracts from the techniques that are trying to be modeled Comment from : @Rachel-et4jw |
Thank you I like the subtitles to pay attention to approaches used Comment from : @Aussinata |
I don't care about anything in the video but about the good part I could see very clear how the "person-centered" therapy was performed and I learned a lot from it I could also see how a teenager client can be with a therapist, the questions they do, the way they act, and even the 'problem' example that is very similar to other adolescents' problems I love it I noticed the leg of the girl but I just ignored because I was looking to learn something, not to judge or criticize the video or the actors Excellent example of the "person-centered therapy", thank you for sharing it Comment from : @arianaarias8680 |
Reading a script?! C'mon!!! Comment from : @cp068 |
i dont think the girl should have been reading a script Why was she reading? i would have liked more of a genuine approach to explaining her feelings Comment from : @anthonyburroughs2987 |
Therapist did a great job in the role play, the client, very questionable Great summary at the beginning! Comment from : @Jude-kq1jw |
Hah! wish I could give 'dad' some really directive counselling! Comment from : @EddieFox |
"It's an awfully risky thing to live" also quote from Rogers :-)brbr Comment from : @redlady935 |
Great Video guys! What is with all these judgemental comments? PCT is lost on people LISTEN to the video! and you might learn not to be so distracted by irrelevant details Jeeez Comment from : @jasonlombardo8452 |
This is a terrible example Comment from : @sommerobrien7262 |
Excellent Comment from : @amospink7683 |
What's going on with this girls leg? Comment from : @Sacterheld |
Example there is nothing in the conversation about Maxi Company or Vegas or anything about not paying people or feeling hard party If you watch the closed caption it is all off the point The typist should just copy what they are reading instead of typing what they are saying because it is clearly bad transcription People depend on the CC to understand what is being said so if there are huge mistakes like Maxi Company or Vegas or payment these mistakes confuse the audience depending on the cc it should be fixed or someone should make sure it is correct before making the cc public Comment from : @brucebearse9313 |
Closed Caption is horrible please fix Comment from : @brucebearse9313 |
taraqueen58 I agree with you, absolutely We did however take that quote "and if his love for you is based on a picture, what's the good of that?" directly from Rogers' interview with Gloria Thank you for watching and for your feedback!!! Comment from : @amberrieff2232 |
the therapist showed good empathy but would a Rogerian therapist say " and if his love for you is based on a picture whats the good of that?" surely this is leading the client obviously they have written the script and the therapist in some of this video is quoting directly from Carl Rogers in the Gloria videosthanks for making the video though good to watch as a learning tool Comment from : @taraqueen58 |
Excellent!! Job on the therapist Comment from : @skionen1781 |
