This is a simplistic approach to multiply how much you budget by the number of years you might live If you are in a super-fund, even a pension account, you still continue to invest your balance and receive money depending on the risk level you invest in (whether it be conservative or balanced or even at a cash rate) This is the beauty of compound interest Hence, you continue to grow your money Yes, you may eat into some of the capital, but this would be at a slow rate Also, you may be eligible for a part-pension or even a full-time pension, depending on how much you have in assets/income This whole idea that you need 800K or even a million is a way of encouraging or scaring people into saving as much as they possibly can, when technically they could get by on much less The government and super funds want to you to fund your own retirement, so you don't get a pension Recent examples indicate that a couple who have the base level of super/assets/income at $470K and receive the full pension, are better off than a couple who have a million dollars in super, who don't get a cent in aged pension, nor any of the entitlements that come with it It's called the "sweet spot" I am all for people trying to put away as much as they can afford into super, but super funds and financial advisors need to be more upfront about what is real and possible and what people are entitled to from the government as well And now we are getting complaints from the government and superfunds about people being scared to "de-cumulate" and spend their super Also, these people want to leave a nest egg for their children What do they expect when they have scared the bejesus out of people about saving all their lives and now people are scared to actual start spending Comment from : @galex5060 |

So what your saying is a blue collar shit kicker can never afford to retiremmmmmm Fantastic!!! Comment from : @littlericho4963 |

Horrible advice brWhat you're suggesting are factors, aren't actually factors A caravan isn't a luxury and the figures you're quoting are assuming you have a funny paid off home and maybe also rely on the pension so yeah, that has a retirement age linked to that You're an airhead Comment from : @anthonyonline4740 |

The background music was pointless, annoying and totally unnecessary Comment from : @radic888 |

This advice is mathematically absolutely "crap" wouldn't listen to Canstar if they paid me for it (it actually depend on how much they would pay) Comment from : @matsjonsson4019 |

Well as a soon to be 65 year old I’m hoping after getting heart inflammation from the 1st of 2 Coerced Mandated mRNA💉💉 (No Jabs No Job) shots; that my lifespan has not been sabotaged, the excess deaths however suggest otherwise I’ll Never Forgive or Forget Comment from : @mrpolsco6872 |

More and more people might face a tough time in retirement Low-paying jobs, inflation, and high rents make it hard to save Now, middle-class Americans find it tough to own a home too, leaving them without a place to retire Comment from : @Raymondjohn2 |

Retirees who struggle to meet their basic needs are the ones who could not accumulate enough money during their active years to meet their needs Retirement choices determine a lot of things My parents both spent same number of years in the civil service, but my mom was investing through a wealth manager, and my dad through the 401k Comment from : @CameronFussner |
