I like the spring drive movement because of the technology I could never afford one but I love it just the same

I loved your POV- made me re think why I’ve hesitated on buying a watch I loved and can afford but didn’t because of the “will it go up in value” Thank you

new watches are almost always a loss with a few exceptions, if you want to make money to offset your hobby like I do, buy low production number vintage watches at a reasonable price and rebuild them, enjoy it for awhile, and sell it on a few grand more The issue is folks who know what they have don't want to accept the fact that a destroyed A Lange or Rolex is not worth alot in its current state so you will have to have reasonable sales experience to convince them
Comment from : @PatrickHenry-t1s

@NicolasMiari
I was never interested in watches until I considered the idea of wearing a high quality watch theoughout my son's childhood, to have the memory of seeing it in Dad's wrist imprinted in his brain, and thus make it all the more valuable when I finally pass it down to him (along the way of my research, I did develop a genuine delI think/del fondness for watches)brThat's why I feel zero connection with the idea of watches as financial investments Selling a watch I bought simply isn't in my plans

@justonemovement
It is always good to see your money spent go up in value, however I believe and practice what most watch enthusiasts keep saying Buy what you like and wear what you lovethis is especially true in watches I honestly find certain models of Patek, AP and RM quite ugly Just my opinion but that is how I feel
Comment from : @justonemovement

@kleitosaliagas5668
The car analogy is not exactly on point If you spend 5 to 10k on a used watch, chances are good that in a decade, you would probably get the same money for it If you spend the same on a car, you would probably get 20-30 cents on the dollar

Bravo - respect - keeping it real - truth is truth Buy a watch for loss always You will lose If you love it big up Some opportunity if you have the eye Assume a watch is not the S&p😂 Best takeaway 🎉

Teddy, this investment mentality has creeped into everything! Watches, Lego, comics, toys… all of these are now corrupted by greed
Comment from : @vivekaaraga

@joshuadavid2534
I absolutely love nice watches But, no pun intended, if you’re looking for an ROI, timing is everything Right now crypto and Bitcoin is going crazy and looks to continue moving forward A lot of this market behavior with watches was due to new riche from crypto investors looking to put their money into something This will happen again Any time one market pumps, money will be made and spent and people like nice things The watch makes the man and can be a status symbol To crypto investors, status means a lot It shows that they’re a successful trader and they want people to see that I think it’s a good time to consider watches as an investment opportunity And even if you don’t sell, this is something to pass down to your children and grandchildren

@mikepbj3865
I personally love watches and am a huge fan of the art and craftsmanship I believe that the reason people (including myself) care so much about appreciating value and making it an investment is because watches generally come with a pretty steep price tag and people like to think that they aren’t making a stupid financial decision when they buy a time piece that they like
Comment from : @mikepbj3865

@NoNo-ng9sl
Showing IG posts to highlight the current trend is unfair Rolex has ALWAYS been a staple in pop, mainstream art, hip hop, and contemporary circles Its always been on the biggest ways to flaunt wealth Nothing about that is new And taking aim with it now?
Comment from : @NoNo-ng9sl

@doraemonpawnz
Preach Teddy 6 years ago I thought of buying a rolex as a milestone on my career and a memento Fast forward to now after multiple promotions, buying a rolex sounds like a lame joke The same OP and Datejust model I saw 6 years ago has doubled their price and getting one is simply not logical at all now I don't care about price increases because I'm not the type to flip my watches ever, all this price jumps would just turn away potential up and rising new money customers from these old luxury brands
Comment from : @doraemonpawnz

@tahseendavid

@badhabit6140
As someone in a third world country, even spending $200 on a watch is an INSANE amount A watch worth $1000 is multiple salaries This is why I will only every buy watches that appreciate in value Purely because you could buy a house for that much so it would be incredibly irresponsible to buy something that depreciates for that much money
Comment from : @badhabit6140

Teddy over the years I bought vintage Omega watches As I told you I am from Ohio living in Florida I love my Omega watches But this year I have bought two watches My first was a brTwo tone 37mm blue quartz Invicta price $4900 I am surprising pleased that watch keeps brExcellant time Thé second watch I just got this week It is a Seiko green Optimist I paid a total of $65000 A very substantial watch It reminds my of a Rolex I am thinking either a brBall watch or a Hamilton I remember Ball Jewelery store in Cleveland I was very young but brI remember CleveLand at Christmas time I notice I am open now to other watch companiesbrI really fell for the Seiko Alpinist watch So far I am very pleased This watch band I like with the adjustable clasp I remember when you started , you have done a great job

@Motiahmed330
I hope some watch prices do crash further in this world of 5 rates so some of these become attainable
Comment from : @Motiahmed330

@davidtomasetti8520
Honestly the only way I could justify spending 4k on something so non-utilitarian ( especially to my wife) is the possibility that it will at least hold its value

Comment from : @Boerje69

@shouryabhattacharya2284
You know what buddy, you will survive in the market long through up and down cycles The price of ultra high-end watches are a function of liquidity, so in a phase of quantitative tightening it would become very difficult I like the balance you have, so tell me, do you guys sell in Germany? I am considering buying my first chronograph in around 5-6k
Comment from : @shouryabhattacharya2284

@EffARapName
I'm always right in the middle with everything, but I just wanted to say it's hard to pick a side because i feel like the ever increasing demand for gourmet fuckin watches is ultimately the industry selling it's own poison I personally don't wear watches, OR invest in them, but i've always thought they were awesome and i guess all i'm saying is that if you don't want tons of people interested in your industry, don't make SUPER AWESOME SHIT

@Sams911
I almost bought a stainless AP 15400 for $90K, with an MSRP around $25K but instead I bought a VC Overseas 4500V gold form the boutique at MSRP $545K by just waiting a year well guess what, 2 years later, the Stainless RO went down by 60 and my VC went up by almost 70 and sells for $89-95K now and all I had to do was buy the watch I actually wanted, and not the over hyped "investment" watch
Comment from : @Sams911

@stevelangsdorf7307
I think the best and smartest move is find a watch that has an established value, that you really like and can afford and enjoy and hope for the best If watches are your business I got nothing for you I bought two watches in 1999 and 2000 (1each)and got lucky 🍀 NUFF SAID
Comment from : @stevelangsdorf7307

@IridiumZero
What I don't understand is there is CLEARLY huge pent up demand for Nautilus, Royal Oak and Richard Mille-style bold, chunky design That is what's cool, and desirablebrbrSo why do all the mid-tier brands (Tissot, Hamilton, all the thousands of others), who have zero scruples about copying, just keep releasing the same old tired, dainty, old man, me-too garbage designs? Just give people what they want!
Comment from : @IridiumZero

@Law19157
I don't really see investment watches as an issue because a lot of these watches are priced insane right out of factory to begin with Like even $1000 is a crazy amount of money for a watch $300 is still a lot for a watch because these days you don't buy a watch to tell the time your phone does a better more reliable job of that brbrWatches today are fashion accessories, they're mechanical works of art on your wrist and they're investments for a lot of people looking to park their money some place other than a bank However there's still people like me who appreciate those obscure brands nobody has heard off so long as it's a unique design and quality product, none of that cheap Chinese crap
Comment from : @Law19157

@Law19157
This is why I watch your channel, you bring out all of the unique watches and brands that aren't mainstream I love unique stuff
Comment from : @Law19157

@Law19157
I'm super new to the world of watches so an expert opinion is much appreciated I'd rather not buy fake watches and I would very much like to know if what I'm buying is going to increase or decrease in value That said I would still buy watches that may decrease in value because I personally like them but the knowledge of it's value is good to have
Comment from : @Law19157

@clementlau2895
I don’t have a problem with some investment watches but the market is sending a misconception to the general public that watches are great investments Only a few watches are This current condition has given me a hard time to aquire a few watches I have always wanted I think watches are artisanal products, a combo of art, history and style Able to maintain monetary value is great but the current market has gone far beyond crazy I don’t want a economic downturn but a recession may be the only way to correct the watch market
Comment from : @clementlau2895

@finalbattle777
Drake the kinda guy that flex w watches
Comment from : @finalbattle777

@adsingl
I applaud your even view on this My concern is the folks we'd want to attract to the hobby, if entering from an investment view but buy at least somewhat to taste, is that if they risk their financial future on this and prices go down, and for most watch segments, they will, we'll have lost them entirely I'm nearing retirement, only have a couple pieces, looking to add and can now move to next level I like the idea that for what I'll spend there will always be significant value if I had some disaster, but I'm not buying as investment I am an engineer I love mechanical things, still turn my own wrenches, etc I won't add a watch that doesn't speak to me or add some either useful or interesting function
Comment from : @adsingl

@harrisonmixer9583
It’s a great thing that we can buy these expensive things and they retain their value We need expansion into more brands…
Comment from : @harrisonmixer9583

@Marcus-xt9zh
I really like your attitude and appreciate the fact that you are also introducing less-known brands and less expensive watches And here is my point: Beauty and elegance should NEVER be defined by a brand alone Beauty and an expensive price MIGHT correlate but they do not have to I even consider it as embarrassing if a person tries to "prove personality" through a certain brand Fe: If you really think that a Rolex Submariner is so special, buy it for its beauty (though I don´t really understand that), but don´t buy it because you simply want to show off and sell it later on for a higher price So to cut a long story short: I really like your attitude and the objectivity how you present what you really LOVE - and this seems to be watches
Comment from : @Marcus-xt9zh

@IMANcorp1
I think that something similar happened in the wine Industry several years ago At some point, everyone was only talking about the Pilar’s of winemaking, the Grand Crus, the most expensive, so the conversation became boring For me, the best part is finding great producers doing great wines that sell for a reasonable price Finding value gives me the opportunity to enjoy wines more often and start interesting conversations I am convinced that the same goes for watches Finding one that suits your interest and budget is as enjoyable as buying it

Comment from : @speleoth

@michaellee7841
If your investing in watches, you got to buy the high end pieces or limited production runs If you collect watches you buy what you like The low end and mid tier watches just do not hold their values
Comment from : @michaellee7841

@Chewy9595
Why do you never cover Bremont? Am I missing something here?
Comment from : @Chewy9595

@travr6
I don't really care if it gains value as long as it maintains or doesn't lose too much If I buy a watch for 5k It would be nice to be able to sell it in 5 years and at least beat inflation So far only Gold or guns/ammo do that
Comment from : @travr6

@druyay69
I have a love of watches because of the mechanical aspect of it Being a car enthusiast doesn't help either It hurts to think that a Daytona at MSRP is attainable in the distant future but with the investment market that we're in, it's most likely not for me
Comment from : @druyay69

@tarunsetty109
True I get my watches as a sentimental value Got my first Swiss watch, Tissot when I graduated high school and I recently bought a Longines HydroConquest as an accomplishment getting my dream internship More on the way as I climb up the ladder

@Mehdmehd123
Hi Teddy! First, I’d like to thank you for this very interesting and clear video illustrated with relevant figures etc However, can we get your opinion (video) on some limited edition watches such as the new TAG Heuer x Porsche that is limited to 1500 pieces for example?
Comment from : @Mehdmehd123

@Toca251279
Been trying to buy a submariner from an AD for years now, been on "the list" forever, I finally gave up, they (Rolex) can keep the damn watch On a side note I really hope all the flippers will be left with the bag in their hands and finally disappear from this industry
Comment from : @Toca251279

@dangerlurk
I bought my first rolex it was a datejust And I was just buying it because I liked the white dial My next watch was a submariner Rolex from the Grey market (Hulk) and it was just a clean piece I could not resist myself and bought a OP Yellow and OP Tiffany for a ridiculously high price And little did I know that the very 3 days later, the watches 2 OPs were discontinued And out of the blue, my watches have increased so high in value So after experiencing the profit you might say, (but I did not sell any watch yet) I am feeling positive about investment idea But those people who are against watch investment, have not witnessed a profit So there opinion is biased Sooner or later, the values of the watches will go down when the people will be bored about speaking about the Hulk or OP tiffany But it will take a long time still
Comment from : @dangerlurk

@kidnycz
How does taxes work on sales of personal watches? Is just earned income on profit?
Comment from : @kidnycz

@williammehling3135
This is why the high end replica watches have exploded in popularity Watches like a sub that were expensive but affordable are no longer affordable
Comment from : @williammehling3135

@icychap
Respectfully disagree, Teddy What got me into watch investing was a Forbes article that laid out how luxury watches have outperformed both the stock market and real estate, on average That's right, on average But, none of this has anything to do with watch collecting, which I also enjoy The more attainable brands and models are insulated from the boom in the investment watch world They are still just as attainable Whether an Explorer sells for 10,000, or 18,000, that Seiko is going to be the same price So, in short, my advice would be to someone who simply enjoys collecting, stay in your lane You are right, more interest in watches generally leads to more attainable watches I say, enjoy it, and either ignore the investors, or become one of them! For my part, I enjoyed both aspects immensely

Interesting approach to the topic Patek Philippe tiffany dial is a perfect example of shifting hype to other models Rolex Oyster Perpetual with tiffany dial sky rocketed after this auction (retail 5k and second hand 10x more)
Comment from : @pstrzezek

@johnm5131
what is sad, and I've heard this from many people, is that it is now impossible to go into a shop and 'treat' yourself, or spouse with a fine watch purchase The dealers play games, the manufacturers play games In the end, they remind you that THEY are successful, instead of the buyer validating their own success by being able to purchase the watch So many early watch buyers have been turned off and many elite purchasers have been burned and moved to other endeavors
Comment from : @johnm5131

@wooferjr169
Teddy is probably the only watch enthusiast channel that gives the spotlight to a Patek the same way he does to a $15 F-91W CasiobrThe majority of watch channels however, only care about Omega's, Rolex's, and other luxury watch brands Those channels don't care about horology, or don't even know what the true definition of horology is But Teddy knows what horology is and he shows it!
Comment from : @wooferjr169

@robertcancellare6137
I think you hit the nail on the head talking about the current state of investing, in general There is a large section of the population that is barely learning about investing, having never experienced a true drop in the market This would make any 'investment' a solid opportunity to be exploited, (in, hopefully, the shortest time possible) The reality lands closer to your used car analogy I don't think, as a whole, that the watch collecting community, sees watches as a money maker, but more of an extension or a way to express their fascination in and the joy they get from utilizing their pieces
Comment from : @robertcancellare6137

@johnrussell89
Veblen goods sometimes do better regardless of financial crisis
Comment from : @johnrussell89

@leandropaparelli
I am a watch enthusiast, having owned several pieces of Suisse brands such as Rolex, Omega, Breitling, Oris, Rado, Tag… I never thought I would make money on them, since I always buy them new at the AD There is a lot of hype for sure, but also lots of frustration, every time I go to a Rolex boutique and can’t buy a watch, I think that is ridiculous, and been pushing me away from that brand, and going forwards the next good thing that I can actually walk-in and get a new Omega on retail price
Comment from : @leandropaparelli

@0797cb
I’m 24 and I bought my 1st brand new Rolex a week ago Maybe I was lucky, maybe the authorised retailer was keen to me but my waiting time was 2 weeks that I don’t think was that bad ! I think we build a hype greater than reality…
Comment from : @0797cb

@tangopete
Great episode as usual I think when you buy watches based on investment opportunities, you lose that passion for the craft That also applies to any other genre
Comment from : @tangopete

@audemarspiguet4237
God how I hate those amateur watch dealers who only talk about market prices and hyped models Take Trotters as an example - I’d never take “investment” advice from a bunch of guys without even proper university education So, guys, just think before you listen to such idiots
Comment from : @audemarspiguet4237

@bayflowshow65
I just hope that watches don’t end up getting into the roots of the sneaker hypebeast culture I went to a Rolex dealer And I’m glad to see how guarded they are about the watches I was floored when they told me how much a Rolex was while I previously saw prices on Amazon for 300 the value There is no rhyme or reason to justify the cost of those watches And I hope I will someday buy one Honestly, the Rolex and watches in general are one of the last heirloom items to keep someone’s modest life a legacy
Comment from : @bayflowshow65

@athleticgeek1
I remember back in 2009-10 people were dumping "assets" like vintage cars, watches, art, etc to get by in areas like LA/OC I know I did when I sold a Breitling Nav for 50 less than what I paid for Market has been in gradual decline and will only continue as people move cash into inflation proof assets which watches typically dont fall into Buyers market coming in the next year or 2
Comment from : @athleticgeek1

@danavipuzzles7308
Personally, the idea of spending over $300 for a watch always seemed rather ridiculous to me It is only recently that I started taking an interest in luxury watches, and that interest came from looking at these watches as long-term investments I think most -- if not all -- watches that are $10K or over, will at the very least hold most of their value, and in many cases appreciate in value When you look at it that way, you're not actually "throwing away" $10K or $50K or $500K on a luxury watch, but rather putting your wealth into an asset that you can enjoy rather than putting it into a bank account Although I personally would never spend over a few hundred dollars on a watch that I wouldn't be convinced will hold its value, and I still see these expensive watches as investment watches, I'm also starting to see the beauty in them as well and taking a genuine interest in them Seeing the tremendous time, resources, and ingenuity that goes into making these watches, and seeing how rare some of them are, I can understand why people take a strong interest in them
Comment from : @danavipuzzles7308

@VWatchie
I would never buy a watch as an investment If I see a watch that I fall in love with I buy it if I can afford it Some of my most beloved watches cost less than a hundred US dollars and many of those are Russian brands like Poljot and Vostok
Comment from : @VWatchie

@Jthe5th
The problem is that those high-end watches huge prices made the low end vintage watch market blow up too, all of the sudden there are more and more sellers and models for sale and the prices are getting higher and higher in the low end vintage watch market to the point some of these watches have unjustified high costs
Comment from : @Jthe5th

@gregsefcik6700
I’m a watch enthusiast and like making money, what’s wrong with that? I think certain brands are going to see a massive decline, I wouldn’t want to be stuck holding the bag when the market corrects itself…these prices cannot sustain itself considering very small fraction can afford I think brands like Tudor, omega, Breitling, will become increasingly popular considering availably and affordable prices Teddy, Do some videos on Bell and Ross and Montblanc
