@GH-uo9fy
This guy isn't even a GM, I wonder why they label him on chessmaster like he's some chess god or something Also I can't believe I wasted a lot of time and youth listening to his chess non sense back in the day on that software Wish I was born a little bit later so I can have new tools of today and much more efficient ways of learning during my critical period

@YPTusa
Loved the story and the movie but, to be honest, his resentment of the label 'prodigy' might be becuase his true potential was never really realized Change my mind

@mrnnhnz
I got wondering if maybe Josh "left" chess for the same reason Morphy did But I don't think that's true (though there are perhaps one or two similarities) I've seen the movie (got it in my dvd collection,) and really enjoyed it
Comment from : @mrnnhnz

@poetcomic1
When your 17 and autographing screaming girls legs it might distract you from an utter devotion to chess

I am here just right after watching the movie " Innocent moves" ( Joshua Waitzkin)brGreat movie :)
Comment from : @RissaFromHouston

@raygordonteacheschess5501
If Josh had spent more time ACTUALLY learning than TALKING about learning he might have become a GM I laugh at his failure to do that because in the 1980s all I heard was that I was too old and he was the next Fischer Bet I could crush him in a match even now
Comment from : @raygordonteacheschess5501

@bigchestflex
I find this interesting I have a buddy who grew up being the center of attention in a very special way These two situations are incomparable, but they share the fact that both of these kids wanted to get away from the spotlight and to be treated like their peers I've always been jealous of this kind of attention, but I guess it often comes with a fairly heavy price Gonna read the book! This guy seems great
Comment from : @bigchestflex

@rv706
Yes but Joshua, Wunderkind is a German word, it's pronounced "Voonder-keend"

Thank You from Poland for Your lessons in 11th chessmaster edition Good job especially in Your approach to the chess game as a king game with respect to each move and position It s nice to hear Your voice such well known from many hours study of that edition
Comment from : @anta1952

@tenshib5951
That time slowing down thing has happened to me on several chaotic occasions It happened once when I rolled a Jeep Grand Cherokee everything happened in slow-mo and I remember that I didn't hear anything (guess my body decided that I didn't need that sensory input in that moment) I believe it happened again when I nearly got into yet another wreckbrAlways seems to show up in those "think fast" or "fight or flight" moments when something horrible is happening or is just about to happen It's like God's way of saying "ok there's only ONE winning move Don't screw this up!"

@joeschmoe233
the opposite of Fischer really Waitzkin is open, insightful, humble with his intelligence, and comfortable in his own skin Bobby spent most of his life fleeing from his own demons It's amazing how the love of a family can keep you sane and grounded, especially for exceptional people

@marthalee6272
Hello Joshua My name is Joshua Oloye Oke and I love you When I was twelve years old, I started playing chess in a more serious compacity I didn't have a great understanding of the fundamentals of chess until I bought your 2gigabyte chess program, and really watched and listened to your instructions Sadly I was never able to finish the program, but I remember learning the fundamentals from you I didn't feel judged by you, even when I missed the perfect move, and because of that I was and still to this day, have been able to use chess as an expression of self, as I seek for the truth in my opponents Because of you I learned to see past the bluff, and focus on the real things that do matter You taught me how to use the rules for leaverage, and because of that I believe you've made me a better person I think one day you'll read about me, and if you do, I really hope it inspires you to reach out, and meet me in person
Comment from : @marthalee6272

@kwixotic
Excellent book, I can see why this acting coach I'm about to start with uses it as source material, though at times it goes off into tangents about chess but moreso with his Tai Chi experiences
Comment from : @kwixotic

@lt1038
I can still recognize the sound of his voice from Chessmaster 9000 I think I listened to all of his lessons on there I don't think I've seen a chessboard since, but the impression Josh made as a teacher, to encourage understanding, that stayed with me
Comment from : @lt1038

@canefan17
This guy reminds me of Ricky Williams (one of the recent all-time great RBs who just left the game and started doing yoga, tai chi, lots of pot, getting in touch with his spirituality, etc)brbrIt's all a bunch of mumbo jumbo to me but obviously not to these guys Kuddos to them for finding what works

@robertjokel8071
Dear Josh, I was inspired from the movie about you and so I found your youtube I loved the laughter with your dad! I started playing chess when I was 11 and won all of my high school challenges and college games At some point I no longer enjoyed the game as I had my self esteem wrapped up in whether I won or not Too much pressure so I stopped playing and I didn't like the demeanor of many of the people in the chess community Your youtube inspired in me a bit more self acceptance and and allowed what remaining grief I had in regards to the game to flow What an extraordinary young man you are I would love to meet you someday! I study martial arts and if you are interested I have an amazing teacher for you to check out  I am sure it would be right up your alley I am a wholistic P,T and have pioneered new methods of  healing and as I face my own inner adversity I am working to finish a film about my work that was inspired by Dr Lawrence LeShan, author of , "cancer as a turning point" Larry helped people with terminal cancer in the 1950's and 1960's to help just by talking with them thank you Josh for your contributions! warm regards, Rob

Comment from : @jamesgrey13

@kevinmathewson4272
I relate Staying pure and holding onto the beginners' mentality, these are difficult hurdles to overcome Fuck, I don't know if I can do it
Comment from : @kevinmathewson4272

@arishorts
Josh Waitzkin is quite the particular individual One who's obsession with being the best has lead him to a substantial amount of personal realization All victories come with losses, however, and he's done well to sponge in every detail he could I admire his determinism and cerebral abilities I hope i can accomplish like he has
Comment from : @arishorts

@espound
The book was interesting, entertaining, and insightful I think the lessons he promotes indeed ring true Yes he had a privledged upbringing but so did many other people who provided great contributions to the world, that makes no difference However, now that he is married I highly look forward to seeing Part 2: "The Art of Learning After Being Married for a Couple of Decades and Parenting Teenagers"
Comment from : @espound

@henrikaxelsson9581
"the idea of slowing down time, and create ways of changing your perceptual patterns at will" i think this is something that is a gift from god or similar, not something you can learn or change yourself"i talk about this in my book", as if bying the book would give you those abilities
Comment from : @henrikaxelsson9581

@Manny123-y3j
I really enjoyed the book and love hearing him talk also
Comment from : @Manny123-y3j

@tbutters41
Interesting book, but he is so removed from real society that he has no idea he led a priviledged childhood
Comment from : @tbutters41

@wenaolong
I feel what he's saying about learning from the negative, and of course trying to gain from it rather than merely lose And most important, to learn from it in such a way that the gains don't come from further suffering anymore I think this is still a demonstration of the evil-ness of this universe, because teaching with suffering is evil and unnecessary The essence was already within us, so the fact is that it was hidden so that we WOULD suffer, not so that we would learn: we learn anyway
Comment from : @wenaolong

@wenaolong
I just completed Josh's Art of Learning course in the Grandmaster Edition of Chessmaster It has really helped my relationship to the game in so many ways I was also alienated from the game for various reasons, but I originally loved it in a way that transcended winning (without denying the importance of it, of course) I now know that I really was just in love with an ASPECT of the game, and when that aspect was obstructed the game fell away It is about the "nei bu fen" the internal part
Comment from : @wenaolong

@wenaolong
Just take a look at the position for a moment Really think :)
Comment from : @wenaolong

@creamkrim
It's white to move here What do you think?
