My little one had a bike with a cargo rack So I tied a stick from the rear axel up along her back ending a bit over her head Excellent way to give support as I was running aside Your grip is straight over the center of gravity My grandson started on a balance bike and learned to ride all by himself at 2yrs A few weeks later he advanced to a pedal bike

This is not a insult I learned to ride a bike with training wheels but it is not good to teach with them because it is completely different with corners your teaching them to ride a trike also grass is not the best because your kid can have a really rough time getting it going but it depends dirt road is probably best if your worried about pavement

Close-toed shoes man, close-toed shoes on a bike Always Technically this is less important than the helmet, because it won't save your life But it WILL prevent significant amounts of pain, and it will do so much more frequently than the helmet

in my experience, that short grassy hill at the beginning is the ticket to success they don't have to pedal, just pick their feet up and down when my kids got to riding down the whole hill without needing their to put down their feet for balance, we went to flat ground and added pedaling
