Moved away from technical perfection recently and [re]found the joy of photography again No more "the light is not right" or whatever It is liberating and the results anything from "that what not what I envisioned" crap to the "wow" Love this lesson and your in general artistic, mature and yet unpretentious approach to photography Comment from : @PerEng2405 |

Thoroughly enjoyed this presentation, thank you Comment from : @psychomantis10122 |

Oddly enough, I think I have taken so far the best photos at the beginning of my photo adventure when I knew nothing about composition, techniques etc I just looked around, saw a frame I found interesting and tried to get a good photo of it without overthinking Now after 6 years of amateur photography and gaining experience I'm less happy about my photos than at the beginning Even when I compare my recent photos with photos from the past, I think the old ones without any experience were better Comment from : @7Andy77 |

I just got an Ernst Haas book out of my library yesterday and pored over the pages in their nice cool AC building It was wonderful to see, and even more so, when you realize that before Haas, most of the art world at large (at least in the US) saw color photography as the realm of advertising and not serious Haas was the first that whatshisname at NYC MOMA said was the definition of WHY color photography was about the color as much as the subject brbrLoved your video Very nice reinforcement of all I learned Comment from : @ChrisBrogan |

Photography is a language Texhnique is simply the sentence structure of that language Comment from : @garywoodard6693 |

Nevertheless, the choice of imaging device plays a central role, especially when it comes to the physical properties such as image field size, image sharpness and a number of optical properties of the camera lenses For example, there is and remains a significant difference whether I take photos with lets say a 4x5" or 5x7" sheet film camera or a 35mm roll film camera, regardless of what I want to capture with it or if physical film or a digital back is being used while doing so Or whether the smallest aperture even allows a certain shutter speed at all
brThe size and resolution of the image area as well as the amount of light available in the focal plane when taking the photo ultimately determine whether a photo can be meaningfully enlarged for publication And a number of these criteria determine whether creating a photo actually makes sense or is simply unnecessary and a waste of time and materials already before the picture is even taken
br“Seeing” (sic!) in order to be able to recognize what and how something is worth depicting is elementary, and at the same time pointless if the “aids” ultimately cannot sufficiently enable the technical implementation of the pictorial representation of what is “seen” So, while I do agree that "composition" is key in photography, without the appropriate technical equipment it simply becomes obsolete since photography isn't about staring at things, it's about the technical process of painting images with light! We are encouraged to seek out the extraordinary moments that are simply waiting to be discovered even by what some may think ugly Imperfections & mistakes can add character Simplicity, just take the shot Comment from : @MyWalk3296 |

Its the 12" behind the camera that takes the photo, the camera is just the tool for your imagination to use Comment from : @stevehayward1854 |

Your channel is refreshing After all these YT videos on which gear you should buy, it is so great to be brought back to the simple reality of art And no need for the latest Sony released yesterday ( be worry a better one will be released next week) to enjoy taking and creating photographs Thank you and please continue and I support your new project Comment from : @ericpecquerie4868 |

It's simple to learn photography but if you don't have imagination you will never master it Comment from : @HarveyWallbanger-ho2cq |
This is more specific than most videos about composition etc, but still, "pay attention to the light" is not advice I can use practically And often the more specific comments don't tie in with the images being shown When he talks about the texture of an orange, there's no images of oranges, and the images that are shown don't seem to emphasize texture So, we learn that shape, form, texture, light, and color are important But we knew that Comment from : @popeyesweetpea |

the key is confidence with what you shotbri often capturing a blurry image, but my perception about a good image is what makes me think it's not a great photo because it's blurrybrit's the boundaries /wall /limit that makes me afraid to explorebrbecause sometimes, blurry images evoked emotion and that's the art of it imperfection is makes it perfectbri learn something new Comment from : @CuriousPug12 |

The camera is the key to taking photographs, because you can't make a photograph without a camera In saying that it's learning proper composition, study drawing and painting, color theory, art history, 2 dimensional design, go to museums and look at great paintings and study them This video leaves out the fact that Ernst Haas studied painting before he ventured into photography Comment from : @MrPhotographerDude |

This is quite eye-openingno pun intended Thank you! Comment from : @lionheart4424 |

Best thing i ever did for my photography was sell all of my gear My photo "gear" now consists of an old small Ricoh GRII and my iphone It is so liberating and you can focus on what truly matters in photography I now ALWAYS have my camera with me Comment from : @WhatsDaveUpTo |

As a young photographer in the 1960's Ernst Haas's work was a revelation to me When hearing about his use of the dye-transfer and other techniques I thought, well that is well out of my reach But today as a retired old man computer software has opened some of his process up to us mortals Seeing and using the camera is another thing Thanks for this insightful channel Comment from : @rdavis7350 |

This is one of the channels that gave me the courage to start my YouTube channel 9 months ago about self development Now I have 1,727 subs and > 1k hours of watch time I know it’s not comparable with others but I’m still proud I started because I’ve been learning so many lessons that I could haven’t learned without getting started in the 1st place Comment from : @nathananderson8720 |

Can all be blamed on camera manufacturers using the term ‘fully automatic’ in their advertising for eons A camera is as inanimate and as useless as a musical instrument, without a creative user Comment from : @nikonboy07 |
Thank you for making this video Learning to see is the most fundamental skill in photography, and it’s also the most overlooked in today’s gadget-driven world I wish there’s a UHSII 256 and 500MB SD Cards so that people are forced to think before pressing that shutter button 😆 Comment from : @wisruteb |
Ernst Haas is the master in my opinion Comment from : @royhobbs785 |

I feel like the entire world of the Arts is endangered by AI AI fiction, AI photography, AI paintings, AI sculpture And you have destroyed careers which are dependent upon being able to be mediocre as a beginner Even Van Gogh was a lousy draftsman when he started Young artists, photographers, etc need to have the ability to make some small amount of money at a journeyman level That is disappearing and most people don't conceive of the value of preferring living humans that depend upon what they can earn versus AI which can do it cheaper and faster and often better Comment from : @andrew_owens7680 |

I am a professional painter, and I have taken amazing photos even with my cell phone I make sure when I take a photo it has an artistic look otherwise I won't take the picture I see many YouTubers with high following and almost 97 of them take lousy pictures Comment from : @maximusaugustus6823 |

My father was a photographer and i used to carry his bag around for a bit of money I started being interested in photography when i fell in love with Kubrick and cinematography My father has now been gone for almost 10 years and what i have left from him is a deep passion for photography and a good ear for good jazz I guess i become him uncousciounsly in order to better deal with his absence Comment from : @micheledeidda2565 |

Thank you I only have a basic point and shoot camera The challenge for me is what i see in front of me, i dont have the skill to capture it in the camera And most of the time i dont know how to "see" or "look"This video is a big help Comment from : @bahavamoss8372 |
Haas had a great eye for good pictures Anybody thinking more about his camera and lens than about how to frame the things around him, is not likely to be successful as an artist Comment from : @Jack_Schularick |
I absolutely love the blurred ones - they have a painted kind of texture to them Comment from : @nettietrees7238 |
It is the photographer only that creates the photo and how good it can be, the camera just records it; but the better the equipment, especially the lens, the better the photograph can be So I agree with you completely Comment from : @vividmemories8883 |
