I paid less than 7k in MX for the exact same system my brother bought in the USA I pay about $5 a month for the electric company to generate and send me the bill Comment from : @rlicon1970 |

You prolly went on vacation in sept 2023 word em up!!! Comment from : @mattc825 |
How long are panels expected to last? And will they shatter in lets say a hail storm? Comment from : @dontworrybehappy8080 |
I applaud your video and your breakdown of cost and such However, a few things you haven't factored into the final cost is the fact that over time the solar panels will not create as much energy as when they were new and first installed And secondly, being electrical issues, they will probably have some malfunctions with them along the way Don't figure they will always work perfectly over 30 years span That isn't going to happen And thirdly, at some time during the life span, those panels will be phased out and newer ones will take over So factor in the cost of replacements when any of them fail Not trying to scare you, just trying to be realistic Thumbs Up! Comment from : @garymucher4082 |
If you financed the solar system, how much do you pay per month? Comment from : @nicolaslockheimers |
Panels keep getting cheaper You don't necessarily have to sell power for them to be worth it I hear you say you didn't make as much money as you thought because you used more energy than you anticipated However, you didn't have to buy that unanticipated energy that used was at the higher demand rate so you "made" more money than you would have selling it Comment from : @markfeldhaus1 |
People forget the north has longer days in the summer than the south I lived on my boat away from the dock every summer and always made enough power for my needs from my panel Comment from : @markfeldhaus1 |
Her assumptions over time are that the solar will maintain the same efficiency It wont Comment from : @TxChristopher |
She isnt curious why her November electric was so out of line? That one alone shifts the averages Comment from : @TxChristopher |
I barely got in on NEM 20 with batteries Apparently the transformer from the grid was to small to accept the electricity all the panels i really needed I could only get a little less than 1/2 the amount really needed to offset my use Its been a little over a year and on a month to month there really isnt a bill but come true up time its pretty big, over $100 per month average Comment from : @jeffrosier3632 |
fat girl on ad????????????? hahahaaaa!! Comment from : @maxangeles6279 |
So the pay back period for the solar is 4417 years Comment from : @dmfarmer15 |
But the panels WILL NOT last for 30 years, Do the research on average, panels last 5 - 6 years before needing replacement Comment from : @larryd1296 |
Adding insulation to her house would be more beneficial than solar panels That’s my opinion Comment from : @stephanechouinard5867 |
Extremely misleading Show your actual energy usage Also, show your government rebates Your conclusion will be much different Don't fall for it, people! Comment from : @ajj7606 |
How often do the solar panels need to be replaced? Or will they last the life of the house? Comment from : @israelbrown5330 |
The main issue that I think would be helpful for your viewers is the cost The "cost per packaged watt" or cost per module is relevant It seems that folks are getting charged a lot more than the system should cost True that the seller will maximize their profit and seek the highest that you are willing to paybrHOWEVER, if you breakdown the cost of Materials and Labor, you would find that the price you paid is pretty high (you were willing to pay it though) Many dont seem to push back on the number Panels are a commodity, MANY installers should mean competition brings the price down, and same for electricians (but no one demands a competitive price)brTHAT is the real issue I think your audience would like to see you discuss Comment from : @markdixon392 |
WOW, that's your power bills after $20,000 of solar panel installation No offense, but only in California would that be considered good and of course you still have to include the $20,000 dollars expenditure to get solar is the first place Comment from : @zombieapocalypse3837 |
For the last 25 years, my electric bill has been about $70 Comment from : @wbtittle |
What a ripoff these utility companies are It makes me sick honestly They rip evetybody off Comment from : @barbarakloise6790 |
Wow! How much a month? $892? brThat’s almost what I pay all year for gas, and electric in a three bedroom two bath home 🏡brBut I’m in the Midwest which is a big difference Makes more sense in a warmer climate Comment from : @dave3657 |
Cheap for electricity in Wa? Uhm I think you’re misinformed My last bill for a new manufactured home was $340 for one person Comment from : @KAYTORAMA |
In Florida our electric rates are lower than yours but many folks are seeing savings with solar However they are experiancing one major issue Many insurance companies are dropping homes with solar and the remaining insurers are increasing their rates subatantially for homes with solar So those expenses need to be considered Comment from : @edrohan3271 |
all this is wrongI can build an efficient home better than engineer a poorly desined one can't make a silk purse out of a pigs ear Comment from : @greystone83 |
The math ignores: investment cost 20 grand at 7 in the stock market would generate $1400 Insurance: Panels are glassy Do they handle a hailstorm? No electronics last forever What is the inverter lifespan? Nor do roofs What is the cost added by the panels in the way of roof replacement? How often do roofs need replacement? Here in Milwaukee it's 20 years Comment from : @jeffreysainio2572 |
Brilliant I think you can eliminate the reliance on 'the grid' with batteries to bridge the evening time Also, I would consider a quiet generator for those time the batteries aren't enough during the evenings I'm sure some sort of automatic switching can be setup to handle it the needs, evening charging the batteries to take over once they are charged again Love the content Comment from : @RemotelyNews |
Brilliant Comment from : @marcustvchannel5885 |
OMG the angle of that roof! thank God for the worker's safety harnesses!!!! Comment from : @douglasriley4567 |
What a sloppy installation 😂 is it for real 😂 just threw blocks on it, cables hanging, done I also have a flat roof, this isn't how it should be Comment from : @tatsianapalchekh5326 |
Here in NJ it's not worth it My monthly 2200sq ft home bill is around $90 a month Comment from : @thefpvlife7785 |

No thanks I'll keep living in a better area of the country, and go the old fashion route Taxes, restrictions, regulations, crazy Liberals Nope Comment from : @wrsawy |

Frying pan voice is sooo annoying Comment from : @bigdogoutdoors4985 |
So for 30k (post 23), it will take 15 years to break even on costs Yeah no thanks It's always the first staller that pays the brunt Comment from : @DwightCraneDenver |
I am shocked that people pay those kinds of prices considering many solar panels sell for as low as $017 per watt, 48V batteries are going for less than $1000 each, and some of the premier inverters go for less than $1300 Comment from : @Digidoc316 |
This was a liberal idea So it must be bad Comment from : @marktweet7395 |
Great video thanks We here in Australia have a cheaper setup cost but are now being screwed with PKH price of only 5cent per kilwattt hour very disappointing Comment from : @simonpollard1065 |

the big electric price con California is shafting you Comment from : @jediknight2350 |
Central Florida here, I spent 4500 dollars on Rockwool insulation and drywall, R45 in the ceiling, R15 in all the walls, highest bill was 115, now 56, Every month i save over 50 percent Comment from : @KirkIngram-r5d |
I'm no mathematician but I think you left out one important cost - how much is your monthly payment for your solar? That needs to be added to the equation Kind of surprised that was omitted in your figures Be interesting to see an actual apples to apples comparison using all the costs Comment from : @brettb614 |
My god, this is your bill? That's the same as ours in China Same figures but in RMB which is 7 times cheaper I have a house of around 3500 sqft in Shanghai That gives you an idea Comment from : @magicsmurfy |
this if you have no problem with your system in the next 8 yearsbrExtra cost usually up to $4000 if you have to fix your roof because you need to take them down and put back upbrlet's be real things will break our Neighbour had to go through this and paid to replaced 5 panels because of damaged from high windsbrAlso insurance may not cover solar panels Comment from : @hao6097 |
One consideration I did not hear you make concerns the longevity of the system Solar panels tend to decrease in efficiency over time Some systems have only lasted 5 to 7 years before becoming considerably less effective Comment from : @timhansen6570 |
You did not answer my main question:brbrIs your furnace total electric or natural gas?brbrNo one ever answers that question 🤷♀️ Comment from : @Matthew_Loutner |
I live in australia and have no solar at all I reside in a 3 bedroom home and on avg pay 150 bucks per month Gas bill a bit higher at 170 bucks on avg p/m cheers Comment from : @jasontroy4723 |

You had clouds in September Comment from : @Matthew_Loutner |

Solar panels will save you noney on electricity, but they do nothing for your heating or cooling The best option is a Mini Split Heat Pump which can cut your power consumption by 2/3 if you have electric to start with If you do both with oil or gas, you will save 1/3 However, a Mini Split is a lot less expensive than solar panels, which mind you will not heat or cool your house You can install a mini split yourself if you are handy, and you can get one with will do about 1200 sq ft for about $3000 They are perfect for most people Remember too, if you take a loan to buy solar panels, that is like a second mortgage, which will need to be paid off at the closing when you sell your house And, here is the kicker, the solar panel companies are selling you solar panels, but they are making their money on the interest from the loans, which are many time 20 years That could cost you more than the price of the panels Just get a mini split with cash, install it yourself, and be happy without an extra debt Comment from : @russmartin4189 |
Get a new AC unit or heat pump with a lot higher SEER rating to cut power use Comment from : @jordapen |

So your panels are held down by cinder blocks…really? Comment from : @solo3163 |

I think there is a Federal Credit and possibly a CA State Credit that can be filed for $$ back Even if it was not applied to the 2023 Income Tax, an amended return can be filed for any of the past three years Comment from : @rickj6048 |
A problem with any "energy" solution, is that people think in simple terms There is no single solution for any system of "converting energy >> work" The best path is to consider the work that needs doing, and the options ie - Electric cars to replace gasoline cars Simple But narrow vision The solution should include: mass transit, electric/gas/diesel/other vehicles, city/factory/rural design, etc There is no single solution to the whole desired outcome Some parts of a long term impact may be staged in time Merged or hybridized Comment from : @CandC68 |
I guess you'd need to factor in depreciation on the panels (they have a finite life) and say 5 years of investment growth on your $20,000 upfont costs Very interesting video thank you! Comment from : @Ralph2 |
Yes Being more self sufficient is worth it Comment from : @wastedwhiteboy2462 |
How old is the AC unit? I replaced my original 35 year old 35 ton unit with a new 30 ton and it uses 40 less kwh My NEM 10 solar is only 52kw but in a 1700 sf home near the ocean so we can run AC a lot and get about 6k EV miles a year before our bill exceeds $100/year (yes, $100 per year, not per month) Comment from : @DSC800 |
I really like solar solutions in the home Comment from : @jonelmer3518 |
You live in a stupid state with outrageous electricity rates so I am not impressed! Comment from : @jtm7336 |
live in vancouver so no solar panels for me Comment from : @mikelook2762 |
Solar makes sense if the government buys it for you Comment from : @donsullivan6199 |
No because your solar panels get weaker and weaker as they age they will not produce near as much if at all in the very near future Plus all the many repairs that you Will be dealing with and you will have to pay out many times brNote everything in the sun deteriorates Comment from : @brianwinkler9962 |
I have had solar in FL for about 2 years Massive cost to instal and ues got a battery when the power os out so is the internet and the whole system crashes For me the cost is massive cost savings are insignificant and having power when a storm knocks out the grid it does not work due to the systems 100 reliance on the internet Very expensive and has produced nothimg but frustration If i could go back in time ibwould not do it brbrThe video showing savings 😂😂😂😂😂 Comment from : @brewc11 |
Well ur talking 30yrs The panals won't last 10 Comment from : @Stuart-nf4rw |
She doesn’t pay for squat and you know it Comment from : @leeolson9466 |
Our January electric bill in mid FL was $11816 that included a $3384 fuel adjustment monthly fee(Whatever that is) The pittance for selling electricity back to the power coop makes Solar a questionable investment in our area Comment from : @MrElwoodCaudill |
Didn’t see an increase in rates cost from 2023 vs 2024, the rates are likely not apples to apples Reduce the ‘24 rate back to 2023 cost, additional 7 savings Comment from : @B_Rad |
20 pannels $2000 Inverter $2000 Paid $20k 😂😂😂 Comment from : @Howt-ooo |
Excellent thanks The big takeaway from this is; do your homework spend the time learning ALL the pro's and con's look at your own situation with a number of "different hats on"brThis video, along with its comments, make it very clear that what works in one case is not guaranteed to work in a different casebrAre you planning to keep the property long enough to reap the benefits? If not, talk to Realtors about the effect it could have on the property value (Worst case: I have seen an example of a poor installation that actually detracted from the property value) Comment from : @PiefacePete46 |
Short answer; no Comment from : @riveny1066 |
Any maintenance charges?? Comment from : @YourWorldOFInternet |
The install on those panels looks a little janky Is there anything more than a few cinder blocks holding down the mounting brackets? What happens if a stiff wind comes up? Comment from : @markchristy9704 |
Mine is like $600 minimum & I have 8kw I'm getting ripped of bad Comment from : @awesomusmaximus3766 |
I am still blown away how the installation companies rip people off, $20k for 20 panels is $1,000 per panel (ok let's call it $900 per panel and $2k for that inverter/controller) and they are laying on the roof held down by some bricks, lol Comment from : @Good-Enuff-Garage |
Thanks Shelby this is great info Comment from : @leepatton1180 |
As the solar panels get older, they don't produce as much electricity as they did when new By the 10th year the panels may need to be replaced Comment from : @2pugman |
Probably an informative video, but I had to stop it at 2:00, because of those extremely annoying snap fades STOP DOING THAT, PEOPLE!!! Comment from : @fredwatson383 |
If you had invested that 20,000 dollars in the stock market on average it would of turned into 160,000 in 30 years Comment from : @steveg6157 |
