brIn modern neuro-psychological learning theory, separate ‘intrinsic’ and ‘extrinsic’ motivating processes do not exist, as all motivation is based on act-outcome expectancies, or is ALL intrinsic This means that positive motivational events can only enhance rather than detract from each other, and that positive ‘extrinsic’ (money or praise) and ‘intrinsic’ (variability of task, as in a game) can never conflict, thus demonstrating that the over-justification effect, is impossible This is also demonstrated from the empirical literature, which contra to Deci and Ryan, Lepper and other authors, demonstrate that the concept of over-justification is false
