There is absolutely zero reason that teenagers should not be working on weekends all throughout high school and full-time in the summers to save for college if their parents are unable to help them Worst case scenario, they should also take a year off after high school and work full time and bank as much as possible for school

Cant stress enough how important it is to get student loans off your back early I just recently had the realization thst 8byears of payong my student loan minimums had barely made a dent in them and i would be paying it off for 30 years at this rate, so i decided to just to go all on to get rid of them this year Dont put it off thinking you will deal with it "one day" Time goes by real fast and suddenly, you'll have paid tens of thousands of dollars to the bank for nothing

Housing not really locked in if you live in Florida or some other place with high HOA fees which can increase every year plus special assessments Also you can get huge jumps in insurance premiums

I refuse to work til I drop dead! Workimg in 70's is insane! Dave on point! I retire early June 2021 Now 56 No regrets! Peace of mind trumps money I live a quiet simple life on my OWN time! Thankfully I have no student loans I got my job thru a temp agency than became permanent! I graduated high school No college I learned basic skills for a office job Was not trying to be a doctor or lawyer I would never depend only on social security Thankfully I have backup reserves to live a humble lifestyle I have no debt Period!

I decided I wanted to become a registered nurse when I was about 33, I went the community college route which took several years but only cost me about $5,000 I could have gone to a private nursing program which would have taken a lot less time but would have left me with about $100,000 of student loan debt give or take Had I been a younger man I might have gone that route, but as an older student, my saying was, "I don't want to be collecting social security and paying off student loans at the same time"

In her case, the home she can afford will probably be older and maintenance costs (hello new roof, new air conditioning unit, etc), property taxes, escro, might not make the fixed cost of buying a home worth it Maybe a condo but HOA fees will be expensive She’s a great candidate for getting a roommate Also, I don’t know what state she is in but no property taxes over 65 in Mississippi so relocating may help her a lot

I got canned at age 44, went to CDL school for 5 weeks and within 10 years was making right at 6 figures driving fuel for Love's truck stops At age 50 we were able to max out catchup contributions in both 401k and IRA We used simple S&P and target date funds, had enough stacked up to retire at age 56, it can be done

What a terrible position to be in I'm so grateful I lived frugally and saved/invested aggressively and consistently I retired at 63 with zero debt and a substantial net worth I feel great and am having the time of my life I can't imagine having to work the rest of my life as many will unfortunately have to do
