I am not vegetarian but I tend to eat almost exclusively vegetarian food and I save a lot of money (plus it's good for the environment) I like dehydrated soy protein (best value for money) and tempe (I can get some pretty cheap, maybe around 5-6€/kg, has a lot of protein and fiber, healthy, and also one of my favourite foods), and sometimes tofu I don't budget this extremely but I can eat from less than 20€/week as a single student (of course lack of being able to buy in bulk makes it slightly less efficient to cook for one person)

In order to maximize my protein I just look for the best protein powders I found a protein powder thats 68kg for less than 80€ (more or less 90$) and just take a shake with two scoops during breakfast and a shake with 1 scoop before bed That alone is 70 grams of protein with just shakes

I think it is so very important that everyone have a garden inside their home You can start small and build up There are very affordable LED lights (or use a sunny windowsill), a few flowerpots you can pick up at a flea market or Walmart, and some potting soil Once you have these, you will have a constant supply of fresh vegetables year around I have a fresh salad every single day for next to nothing! If the supply chain falls apart, you will have a continuous supply of nutritious food for your family There are miniature varieties of all kinds of vegetables that are suitable for indoor growth One of my micro tomato plants is only 6 inches tall and has 29 cherry tomatoes on it with many more blossoms right now in January!

Food pantries rarely give you any fresh fruit or veggies They also rarely give out meat or dairy Frozen foods? Nope There is mostly expired baked goods from local groceries, packaged and canned foods They will give you odd amounts of canned foods too like one can of mixed veggies and one small can of spaghetti sauce Essentially, you get a lot of stuff the stores can't sell to write off as donations for tax purposes They are an absolute last resort but its hard to feed a family of over two on them for a couple of days much less a week Maybe a good video is seeing what you can make from food pantry? If you feel bad getting food from them just donate money later
