My finance teacher in high school was in his 50's maybe early 60s and he swore by the cash envelope system and he taught us that😂👍 honestly I wish I could thank him for all the knowledge he gave us! He was pretty old school with money😂

I do make a shopping list, but if I see something that I always use on sale I will get it l water bath and pressure can food, and have a good stash put away in the basement My husband and I are older, so if the weather is bad we don't go out We repair what we can, but I have found that paying for an appliance repair is a waste of money If it's broken, find a new one And even though we have been retired for going on 20 years, I still have an emergency fund (for things like appliances) and a savings account for things we might want When the bread my husband prefers reached $389 a loaf, even he decided he liked home made bread better I researched and invested in a meat slicer (I make a lot of deli meat) that will also slice bread Every time I bake bread (3 loaves) I feel I am saving $15, and with the deli meat, I feel I paid for that slicer with the first batch of ham and porchetta Love getting all the money saving tips I can When you are retired, the only thing that doesn't increase is your pension

@randybowman
Thrifts are so expensive now that sometimes I can buy new for the same or even cheaper
Comment from : @randybowman

@GroceryGaze
No one taught me how to be frugal growing up or in my adult life I am thankful for all the tips!
Comment from : @GroceryGaze

@dmbalsam
My parents used the envelope method and taught it to me while in collegebrI find coupons are almost always for premade products I don’t usebrWe have done a lot of diy projects brAlways shop with a grocery list Never lived in a home that allowed for food gardening
Comment from : @dmbalsam

@riseofdarkleela
When I lived in the British Virgin Islands, we had the kind of neighborhood borrowing you talk about A cup of sugar, butter for some cookies and they would bring me some cookies after Borrow a cup of vodka and make us some cocktails Miss my heart’s home
Comment from : @riseofdarkleela

@mariarussell5026
I create a weekly menu so I know what to buy
Comment from : @mariarussell5026

@normaalvarado7540
I try to boycott companies which refuse cash I miss paying bills in cash envelopes I like turning clean leftovers into new tasty meals, it can be challenging and fun with different spicesbrMy Mom always surprised me with her ability to craft leftovers into differently flavored meals; she would often make a tasty sauce or gravy to blend the different food stuffs She taught us how to cook and bake from scratch, mending clothes, sewing on the machine, and cleaning until things looked "new" againbrHOA s are Diabolical!
Comment from : @normaalvarado7540

@aprilgale2917
At what point in time do you balance out cost of your own time? Don't get me wrong I would love to clip coupons and mend my own clothes, but it simply takes too long on the precious few hours I have between working my two jobs, and don't make enough impact for me to quit even my smaller part-time job
Comment from : @aprilgale2917

@jenniferklopman2557
These tips are also better for the environment too We don't need to buy so much stuff The fast food/takeout packaging is the absolute worst
Comment from : @jenniferklopman2557

@terrymoses7548
You walk around with cash in your pocket these days, you're either giving it to homeless people or you're a target for thieves
Comment from : @terrymoses7548

@portelasofia98
coupons don’t exist in my country and almost all stores don’t accept cash😭
Comment from : @portelasofia98

@csenuber
You have some good tips, but overall yes, dunderheads should live frugal Yes, you know nothing about money You don't even know what money is
Comment from : @csenuber

@cjcoffman8682
My mom taught me the budget envelope method when I was first starting out 50 yrs ago It worked!!!!

🤖All will be done by robots in 5 yearsuntil they use them to manipulate us to spend more money after trapping us"I have to show you 3 commercials before I fold your cloths and clip your cupons, is that ok master?" I can spray my water on your butt to help you save money on toilet paper master!"
Comment from : @Top22-w9x

@lyndaholloway5469
Just this morning found you Great advice The best to you
Comment from : @lyndaholloway5469

@randomthoughts6680
My mom always told me, "use the card for very important things, but always count how much cash you have to not go above it Extras or less important things should be cash-only, so nobody can tell how much money we actually have" And considering how my country keeps rising it's taxes, I'm glad she taught me early
Comment from : @randomthoughts6680

@Agapy8888
Coupons for eggs, bacon, meat and butter Anything in a jar or box means nothing today
Comment from : @Agapy8888

@chocobrowniewin
It's important to be prepared You may be in a comfortable position now, but it may change quickly in the future It's so important to save as much as possible in the good times
Comment from : @chocobrowniewin

@ambersouthwick3509
I gave up on couponing Theyre all for name brand items, or items you dont need to buy anyways, alot of junk food I keep a few, like when I find some for milk But in general its easier to just buy store brand and whole food items that stretch further
Comment from : @ambersouthwick3509

@edaaaah
i wish i could cook every meal but i work nearly 60hrs a week 🫠
Comment from : @edaaaah

@saal0
Chat what does she mean by family values? Most ecovillages I know consist of the gayest folk out there ♥️🛠️
Comment from : @saal0

@KanishQQuotes
Making coffee at home won't make your richbrHave you thought of committing massive amounts of fraud or money laundering
Comment from : @KanishQQuotes

@enduringbird
People repaired stuff in the old days because it was worth repairing Things are made so poorly today that the time and effort in repairing them are often not worth it because the next piece will break as soon as you repaired the first I love darning but unless you invested in a quality piece to begin with its not worth it because when there's a hole usually the fabric around that hole is worn too The whole garment will just fall apart and it's discouraging
Comment from : @enduringbird

@lazard63
one of the rules we had growing up is to run all of your errands on one trip - hit the dry cleaners, the pharmacy, and the grocery store on one run That way you're not wasting gas on multiple trips
Comment from : @lazard63

@sassychimpanzee7431
One of the issues with the "cash-only" system is that it neglects cash-back awards from credit card companies My husband and i have a card that gets 2 cashback on all purchases We get hundreds of dollars back per year Just make sure youre not spending money that you dont already have
Comment from : @sassychimpanzee7431

@rebeccafoster-faith6647
Regarding coupon clipping - I tried this for a long time The coupons are for name brand non-sale items They didn't save the cost of the same item- but on sale or store brand And it took 2x as long in the grocery Also I cancelled our paper subscription (online) so I don't get coupons anymore anyway
Comment from : @rebeccafoster-faith6647

@wendymartin6479
When you pay with cash, you feel it It is a painful experience that is completely different from swiping You think twice when you have to use cash
Comment from : @wendymartin6479

@IQSim
Coupons aren't even a big thing here in Germany Also they're usually for expensive brands which I wouldn't buy anyway It's better to use the coupons in the Payback app or the store apps Drying clothes on drying rack or a clothesline is very common here I don't even own a drier My dad installed clotheslines in my basement room And if the weather is good enough I just put the drying rack outside
Comment from : @IQSim

@jj46627
Coupons are not just for processed foods From Kroger, I receive coupons for things I have purchased previously Currently I have coupons for carrots, brussels sprouts, onions, apples, oranges, etc
Comment from : @jj46627

@TheGrinbery
Regarding coupons, nowasays there are digital coupons availible if you have a membership at a location or what not And instead of cutting the coupons you wanna use, you just activate them in advance or even just before you reach the cash register But some still publish them in the newspapers and magazines
Comment from : @TheGrinbery

@ultimaetsolder
Most people know these tips
Comment from : @ultimaetsolder

@hemantparakh6462
Things were outdated because they were 50 years old but 25 years later than the Outdating those things would come back to Life so Dump the Standard Card Deck because Uno Card Game Rules the World
Comment from : @hemantparakh6462

@33Jenesis
I buy produce at a local discount grocer It is much cheaper but I can’t stock up because they are ripe I buy enough for a week at a time to finish before I go back to check what the store sells I buy meat from a Latino supermarket The meat and seafood are cheaper and always fresh (Latinos are very picky about their meat and seafood) I also shop at Amazon Fresh after I make an Amazon return I could save $2 off $10 spent so I’d buy eggs and cheese for $10 brbrI cook from scratch and hardly ever eat out I spend about $250 a month on meals (just me and my mother)
Comment from : @33Jenesis

@xSarahNicole
One common theme in the whole video family communication! This is oh, so important that I see a lot of people lack
Comment from : @xSarahNicole

@bethvel1145
Unfortunately, with the low quality coming from the fast fashion mindset that most clothing brands falling into, handme downs are a thing of the past The best way to fight it is to learn to sew and invest in higher quality fabrics
Comment from : @bethvel1145

@ryanbrown1826
I use Fabuloso cleaner with water for floors, counters, mirrors, carpet, toilet, vehicles, etc Instead of different cleaners for each one, use one general cheap cleaner
Comment from : @ryanbrown1826

@jeanniecote5182

It's so sad we cannot rely on neighbors any more Collaboration within one's own community has become more strained nowadays :(

@rosehunter7788
I’m always blown away by all the people in the US visiting restaurants of all kinds every day Even when the pandemic was around It’s insane
Comment from : @rosehunter7788

@annbritton1714
Is the superglue not more expensive than going to a thrift store for a replacment mug? Darning socks yes if you know how to do it and don't mind lumpy socks Eating out is hardly a frugal concept Frugal people make every dollar a prisoner that means not spending anything unless it is a last resort There is no way that they would lend out their lawnmower, borrow anything same
Comment from : @annbritton1714

@devadii24
Who gardens all year in Canada? Do they have a greenhouse? 😂 There is 3 ft of snow on my lawn today
Comment from : @devadii24

@sabersky1134
Why not include teaching your children how to do home cooked meals, budgeting, cleaning, and reading so kids are more literate?!
Comment from : @sabersky1134

@Eurazba
9:17 For this tip, I'd recommend looking to see if your community has a "no buy" group either on facebook or other spaces to find people to borrow from!
Comment from : @Eurazba

@kristinesharp6286
With the homemade you are often spending that much to make it or more than buying it
Comment from : @kristinesharp6286

@kristinesharp6286
I don’t miss the newspaper and having to get rid of the paper At the library I worked people brought their coupons and left the ones they didn’t need But most ended up expired Lots for things people didn’t use
Comment from : @kristinesharp6286

@ilikebread757
it sucks how many businesses no longer take cash
Comment from : @ilikebread757

@julieross1984
Gardening! Also, get involved in community crop swaps It helps create a secondary economy that builds resilience The diversity in your diet has wonderful health benefits as wellbrbrIve saved hundreds in parrot food bills due to growing fresh fruit/veg for them rather than having to buy it for them
Comment from : @julieross1984

@feloniousbutterfly
Libraries are not just good for books--which they are! Libraries also often have movies and magazines, sometimes even entire tool libraries! Support your local library!
Comment from : @feloniousbutterfly

@lizwidner1208
My Dad, who was born in the 50s, did not have much growing up He told me some of his favorite Christmases were spent being together with all the family, really the only things they got as presents were pairs of socks and little clementines in their Christmas stockings But he said they were very fond memories, as this was when he was very little Thank you for this video, I love every thing you talked about in it
Comment from : @lizwidner1208

@benbrubaker7896
The ideas of "fit it vs replace" and DIY are great if you have the skills and tools These skills are no longer taught in school or passed down to children Tools are also costly to buy for a single job Sometimes, paying a professional is the cheapest optionbrI want to add that BARTERING is great here You do this and I will do this for you Also don't buy the most expensive tools Look around at resale or pawn shops Ask to borrow from a friend brThis was a great video Keep up the great work!
Comment from : @benbrubaker7896

@empresswb641
So sad, paper coupons are going away It takes a while to adapt, but the mobile coupon game can be pretty fun
Comment from : @empresswb641

@alohaalia1091
We don’t pay with cash anymore in The Netherlands Everything is by card/phone
Comment from : @alohaalia1091

@selenavillanueva9593
Another tip for those with babies and toddlers, Target let's you return all Cat & Jack brand clothes regardless of condition within a year So only have to buy clothes once while you're child is rapidly growing!
Comment from : @selenavillanueva9593

@lentiltina123
I feel like a lot young people already do these thingsbecause they have tobecause they are poor
Comment from : @lentiltina123

Comment from : @taramisu1483

@erenjinchuriki
I love hand-me-downs Too bad it’s so heavily stigmatized
Comment from : @erenjinchuriki

@diatribe5
Second hand: I really need to find a bookshelf at a yard sale!
Comment from : @diatribe5

@diatribe5
Couponing is a hobby/ way of life that many enjoy, but in my experience, even in the simpler times, the coupons have never been for anything I truly needed
Comment from : @diatribe5

@diatribe5
My parents used to have that budget talk monthly They didn’t involve us kids, but it always turned into a huge fight with them…eventually, they divorced
Comment from : @diatribe5

@JEBavido
Be careful not to spend more money on craft supplies than it costs to just buy a gift!💝

@TeresaRJorgensen-n6o
In my community we have a bTIME BANK/b 💙 I know it sounds weird but it's the best thing you can have, and I want people to have the same thing! 🤩 brThe 'Bank' goes like this: You register (Your name, a short bio about yourself, What services you offer, Your phone number) The idea is very simple You have to 'deposit' time so you can 'withdraw' time bLet me explain, using my real example/b I registered wrote in my bio Hi everybody! My name is Teresa, I am 26 yrs old and the services I provide arebr1) Teach you how to cook and bake easy thingsbr2) Babysit your kids at home or outsidebr3) Teach you how to crochet, all levels br- Now, let's say a registered member wants my help in cooking, I will go there and stay for example 15 hours? It will go to my 'account' as a deposit and I can use it for example 30 minutes to have my pc fixed by a guy who offers this service and I still have 1 hour to use for whatever services other members offer I hope it's clear with my broken English and you can do the same in your area/ community
Comment from : @TeresaRJorgensen-n6o

@KathrynTanner-t8f
This backward-looking attitude is what made too much of the country buy into MAGA nonsense! You don't need to give up smart phones or debit cards to not overspend! I'm 74 I've used the envelope system I make most of my meals from scratch I don't overspend But the "let's all go back to the good-old-days" is very short-sighted
Comment from : @KathrynTanner-t8f

@athousandlittlesteps601
I always appreciate frugality tips, but that rosy picture of the past was a complete f*cking fabrication Holy crap delulu I'm old enough to know people have been stupid and thriftless with money in every generation since the origin of trade
Comment from : @athousandlittlesteps601

@victorrelmek2889
Order groceries online and pick them up It avoids impulse buying
