I do make a shopping list, but if I see something that I always use on sale I will get it l water bath and pressure can food, and have a good stash put away in the basement My husband and I are older, so if the weather is bad we don't go out We repair what we can, but I have found that paying for an appliance repair is a waste of money If it's broken, find a new one And even though we have been retired for going on 20 years, I still have an emergency fund (for things like appliances) and a savings account for things we might want When the bread my husband prefers reached $389 a loaf, even he decided he liked home made bread better I researched and invested in a meat slicer (I make a lot of deli meat) that will also slice bread Every time I bake bread (3 loaves) I feel I am saving $15, and with the deli meat, I feel I paid for that slicer with the first batch of ham and porchetta Love getting all the money saving tips I can When you are retired, the only thing that doesn't increase is your pension Comment from : @710LENNY |

At what point in time do you balance out cost of your own time? Don't get me wrong I would love to clip coupons and mend my own clothes, but it simply takes too long on the precious few hours I have between working my two jobs, and don't make enough impact for me to quit even my smaller part-time job Comment from : @aprilgale2917 |

People repaired stuff in the old days because it was worth repairing Things are made so poorly today that the time and effort in repairing them are often not worth it because the next piece will break as soon as you repaired the first I love darning but unless you invested in a quality piece to begin with its not worth it because when there's a hole usually the fabric around that hole is worn too The whole garment will just fall apart and it's discouraging Comment from : @enduringbird |

In my community we have a bTIME BANK/b 💙 I know it sounds weird but it's the best thing you can have, and I want people to have the same thing! 🤩 brThe 'Bank' goes like this: You register (Your name, a short bio about yourself, What services you offer, Your phone number) The idea is very simple You have to 'deposit' time so you can 'withdraw' time bLet me explain, using my real example/b I registered wrote in my bio Hi everybody! My name is Teresa, I am 26 yrs old and the services I provide arebr1) Teach you how to cook and bake easy thingsbr2) Babysit your kids at home or outsidebr3) Teach you how to crochet, all levels br- Now, let's say a registered member wants my help in cooking, I will go there and stay for example 15 hours? It will go to my 'account' as a deposit and I can use it for example 30 minutes to have my pc fixed by a guy who offers this service and I still have 1 hour to use for whatever services other members offer I hope it's clear with my broken English and you can do the same in your area/ community Comment from : @TeresaRJorgensen-n6o |

This backward-looking attitude is what made too much of the country buy into MAGA nonsense! You don't need to give up smart phones or debit cards to not overspend! I'm 74 I've used the envelope system I make most of my meals from scratch I don't overspend But the "let's all go back to the good-old-days" is very short-sighted Comment from : @KathrynTanner-t8f |
