Lovely bit of nostalgia I remember well the poor shop staff having to struggle with double coinage in the tills and how to work out how to give us change from Old money in New money But in the end it wasn't as bad as some thought Mind you, the thought of £1 only having 100 pence did make it seem less valuable, and there WERE many unscrupulous folk who used it as an excuse to raise prices Some didn't like the half penny, so I do recall many places no longer sold items as 4 per New halfpenny Instead you got 8 for a New penny, and it made it look like a good deal, even though you had to spend over twice as much to get them But that was progress I guess Thanks Nigel Concise, informative and a nice bit of history Comment from : @stationmasterschoice-walku1307 |
