I do not know why the LSD currency was put to an end It was so simple Two happences made a penny, three pennies made a threppence, two threppences made a tanner, two tanners made a bob, two bob made a florin, two and a half bob made a half-crown, and two half crowns made a crown, whilst two crowns made a ten bob note, and finally two ten bob notes made a shilling, not to mention the quinea which was 21 bob So simple I have long been confused with today's currency Comment from : @malcolmabram2957 |

The crown was not in general use, it was just a commemorative issue The half sovereign and sovereign were likewise only special issues as the gold value was greater than face value In normal use there were the 10 shilling note and the £1 notebrAll the post decimalisation coins have been changed except the 1p and 2p coins The 20p coin was added in 1982 The £1 coin was introduced in 1983, and it gradually replaced the £1 note The decimal halfpence was abolished in 1984 The 5p, 10p and 50p pieces were scaled down in the 1990s as, because of inflation, had become too big for their value, this also spelt death to the last pre-decimal coins in circulation [the former shilling and florin coins had remained in circulation as interchangeable with 5p and 10p coins respectively The pre-decimal penny and 3d pieces were demonetised in August 1971, although the sixpence or 'tanner' remained in use with a value of 25p until 1980 brThe £2 coin was first issued as a special issue commemorative, but proved popular so was introduced into circulation in the 90sbrI am 63 years old so I have personal memory of thiese events Comment from : @michaelhaywood8262 |
