Hi - I've been googling my brains out to find something online that teaches bspeaking and hearing/b Irish and not reading it since I can't wrap my brains around all the situational spelling changes 😱 This looks like a great start! 👍👍brDoes anyone know if there's some kind of online Irish course with all the vocabulary, grammar, etc - only audio? Kind of the way little kids would learn, who can't read or write yet, just hear and speak Got my fingers crossed ☺

I just wish that people in the UK could actually speak English Same for Australia Have watched both Irish and Australian TV series, and we have to turn it up loud in an effort to try to understand everything being said The whole accent thing is really difficult, having to replay the scene a couple of times just to see if we can understand what they are saying We even had a National News program with a news crew interviewing someone in downtown London, who identified as speaking Cockney, and they had to put subtitles underneath to tell the people what was being said Watching Clarkson's Farm has been much better until they introduced the guy that rebuilds the rock fences What language is he speaking? Holy s**t

As an Irish person living in the UK, it is easy to see why English is so much more easy to learn than Irish - for a start anyone who thinks English spelling is mental, which we all know it is, Irish spelling and pronunciation are off the planet If Irish is to be more widely spoken, the spelling needs simplifying and more standardisation applied It seems to be stuck in the past Spain has done a lot of this with its various languages, but especially Basque

One tip to encourage speaking Gaeilge/Irish is to start with the words/expressions ppl already use, like 'So long' which derives from the Irish word 'SLÁN' (sounds like slawn) that ppl might remember from 'The Sound Of Music' 🗣🎶"So long, farewell, Auf Wiedersehen, goodbye" Another, an Americanism, 'Assole' which derives from the Irish word 'ASAL' for an Ass or Donkey

I just learned that my language (Muskogee) is derived from four ancient European languages with Illyrian Gaelic being one of them I came to YouTube and I typed in Gaelic language to see if I can hear any similarities and tbh it kind of sounds the same I can hear how it could’ve came from this This is interesting tho I love learning new languages! ♥️🪶

I am from Waterford originally…and when I see the written Irish words, i can read them perfectly…but I use completely different pronunciations… I can read Irish fantastic but speaking is terrible…school forced Irish in the 70s
