There's no way the people in this video represent a random sample of passersby The average standard of Irish is way below what's shown here Comment from : @domurtag1978 |

So cool! Hopefully you'll forgive me testing myself a bit here; apologies for any errors: brbrIs Meiriceánach mé, agus táim ag foghlaim Gaeilge ar Duolingo Is aoibhinn liom é seo! Go raibh míle maith agat agus dia duit ón Stáit Aontaithe! brbr(Hopefully, that wasn't too painful for native speakers to read) brbrWatching this gave me a good idea of how many words I understood Thanks so much for this! Comment from : @brynnesantos9817 |

I have heard it said by Gaidhlig speakers (of which I am not one unfortunately as there was no opportunity at school in Scotland) that many Gaels let themselves down by having it and not using it Comment from : @sky37blue |

I've never been there myself, but based on my own learned understanding of Galway, I told some people more than a few times that everybody from there is either a musician, or a shepherd, except for the guy who owns the pub, and having seen this, I think I got it right And I'm pretty sure that I knew I did because the people I met who were from Ireland, some of them were from Galway, who I said this to could not stop laughing Comment from : @NEbluefire |
I'm sure someone's said it in the comments but "gay-lick" is just an english-language thing, in scotland it's gàidhlig ("gah-lick" if you wanted an english phonetics version) I always heard growing up that "gay-lick" was what the irish called it so it's very funny to me that you have the same thing the other way round Comment from : @flibberfrogman5508 |
Thank you to pointing out to people that Gaelic is not the same as Irish! I see it used wrong so often on the internet Comment from : @TheWBWoman |

Great video I lived in Dublin for three years up until a few months ago, and I would always tell my partner how heartbreaking it is for me to hear more Spanish than Irish in the capital of Ireland (I am Spanish myself) I hope more and more people get to know the beauty of this language and keep it alive Comment from : @paumoya2 |
Fabulous video really enjoyed would love more of this nature Loved when you really stuck and got into conversations with people i think it probably surprised them at how much of the language they had and there was great pleasure in listening to these conversations Comment from : @Emilyk1317 |
I always found Irish hard to learn I’m in Transition year now and have been learning it for about 11 years Despite that my Irish still kind of sucks and I could barely get by in a conversation And I don’t think that’s uncommon for lots of people my age Tá beagáinín Gaeilge agam ach níl sé go hiontach I think the issue with it is we’re taught to write Irish and prepare for tests which generally don’t include oral parts until leaving cert My teacher said Irish should be fun and you shouldn’t think of it as a chore, but when you have a test looming that could decide your future it’s difficult to not worry Comment from : @Sunny-vp7lr |
I am an American living in NYC I am very impressed the Irish language is alive and well Comment from : @briankelly85 |

It always gladdens my heart to see people hang on to their native/ancestral languages especially when so much has been thrown at them to try and make them lose it I sincerely hope Irish and all the other Celtic languages make a comeback Language is such an essential part of culture I’m learning or rather relearning mine too Comment from : @DarrenMoore-le6pg |
Poor Galway- Muhammad has been the #1 most popular baby name for years- brBless the ones who pass on the language (I’m a mom to half cork half American baby) I’m setting everything up to pass down my husbands language The Irish language is set to disappear before most native languages It’s important to use DAILY! ❤❤❤ Comment from : @cour2knee |

What makes you think Irish is not Gaelic? You simply asserted that It is only a modern convention that Scottish Gaelic is referred to as Gaelic and Irish Gaelic as Irish, but this isn't based on anything substantial Native speakers often call Irish "Gaelic" Who the hell do you think you are telling all English native speakers what to call the language? Do you not realise English has 400m native speakers, most of them not Irish, and we will tell you what the language is called - in English Comment from : @disappointedenglishman98 |
No hate but I really don't like how the irish language sounds One of my least favourite Comment from : @Heatwave9000 |
