I am glad this is being discussed now in the media upon Gus Waltz introduction to the world with his father running for vice president with Harris As a 31 year old African American woman I too have a mental/learning disability and was diagnosed when I became 18 and spent most of my education in public schools and working at janitorial jobs because of the god awful system on how people with disabilities are treated especially if your part of the minority Lucky, unlike some people I have a knack for the performing arts and I am a really good communicator on the theater stage

as someone who was misdiagnosed with specific language impairment since a toddler but recently diagnosed with ADHD (at age 37), it's great to hear that a lot of other learning disabilities, comorbid or not, are being discussed in open dialogue instead of shunned away like i was in the 80s and 90s enough with the stigma already; everyone is different embrace neurodiversitybrbrbesides, i'm pretty sure the far-right have some unaddressed mental/learning disorders they need help in diagnosing if the ACA can be expanded with emphasis on mental healthcare resources

As a Minnesotan I can tell you Walz was the worst Governor this State has ever had He stood by and let looters and rioters burn 1/2 of Minneapolis down After a week of riots he called in the National Guard He lost $230 million to gangsters in a government feeding program And when they discovered the gangsters he kept mailing them the money Minnesota had a 18 billion dollar tax surplus He spent all $18 billion on new welfare programs and they are only funded for one year Next year Minnesota taxes are going to have to increase $18 billion to continue funding these programs Little or no support for police Crime in Minneapolis is terrible, 1/2 the police force quit after Floyd Harris picking Walz shows you just how smart she is

I have the same disorder as Gus Walz I was diagnosed as an adult; which made me cry from relief because I no longer felt like a moral failure Unfortunately, it’s not recognized in the DSM-V, which means accommodations are difficult because you don’t meet the requirements for a 504 Normally, it is diagnosed in conjunction with another disorder (known as a co-morbid diagnosis for my non-psych brothers and sisters), which does meet the requirements for accommodations brbrI am so grateful for this wonderful young man and his wonderful family I hope that others can learn and find more understanding

NVLD does not have a "formal" diagnosis Additionally, there are "not" 3 million children with NVLD That number is very liberal in that a whole bunch of symptoms are thrown into the pool Regardless, Gus seems to be a great kid Those who make fun of him are those following their leader's poor example of denigrating others rather than building them up Please Vote in Nov

I teach 5th grade in mixed ability classes, and I can tell you that when they feel welcome and motivated, kids with learning disorders are some of the hardest working and most well-adapted students you'll ever see They often find clever ways to work around their challenges, and they are able to develop complex routines and habits to help them perform tasks that others might find simple And if they have teachers that can help them build these adaptive learning skills, they can accomplish some amazing things I hope the Walz family can bring awareness to the challenges and triumphs of people with learning disabilities when Harris and Walz win in November
