I can't thank you enough for posting this vid I saved up and bought the set up in the vid and my goodness me it's amazing Years back at my parents' place in the countryside I used a Yaesu FRG 7700 with a long wire (still have it) but since moving to metropolitan Tyneside with no room for a wire and beset by noise I thought my HF experience was doomed No more and I am astounded - it's like I have my HF comms receiver back again I don't recommend this for anyone starting out, as there are cheaper options available (my preference atm is the C919 - v nice sound and sensitivity - edited as you can update the firmware on this vs Reketess TR113 which you can't) or one of the Tecsun series For those mentioning about the price, do what I did and save a bit each month Bought both from Ali Express - active antenna GBP 8231 and Malachit DSP 2 SDR GBP 26014 - came with the protective wallet as shown plus all accessories Those in the US may want to consider buying before imports from China get possibly lumbered with a tariff in 2025brbrPS - I don't think it i shown in the vid but there's also a mode to decode CW resulting in the text displaying on the screen - if you follow the instructions re how to to set this up it works quite well Comment from : @a1artz |

I own one of these and it is a nice receiver though not budget by any means I also own the Belka-DX and find it even more impressive Not all the eye-candy of the DSP2 but, my goodness, it is so small and light You can easily carry it around in your shirt pocket and the quality of receptions on HF is superb! Ordered directly from the designer, it's also considerably cheaper than the DSP2 People need to also note that the DSP2 is a very heavy radio! How do you think this compares to the GA508? Im sure you dont actually have a GA508, but, Im curious if you think the GA508 is better? The GA508 is the same form factor (Loop, amplifier), except the loop is twice the diameter of the GA800 (20 inches vs 10 inches) and the amplifier does not have a place to directly mount the antenna; you connect a SMA based connection antenna wire from the antenna to the amplifier, but otherwise, it seems to be the same thing, but a bigger antenna Comment from : @joshuagardner894 |
