The answer should be to slow down or even stop investing to save for a car in cash When I hear the MGS rules I immediately apply the max and look at cars I really have no business trying to buy Not because I can’t afford it, but because spending borrowed money doesn’t resonate with me the same way using hard earned savings would Thus making me look at more inexpensive cars and keeping wealth building my top priority Comment from : @dylanhall3468 |

This didn't address the question asked I believe the answer is this Open a high yield savings account Figure out what the 20/3/8 payment of the vehicle you want to buy is Start putting that much into the savings account After three years you have the cash you need For my personal situation when I hit step 8 of the FOO I went through this exercise I know that my wife and I plan to keep any vehicle we purchase for 10 years while replacing one of the vehicles every 5 years I know what the cost of the vehicle I want to buy is including sales tax and property tax I divide that cost by the 60 months between car purchases and put this money in a high yield savings account When it is time to replace a vehicle I have the cash I need Its hard to stomach sitting on so much cash being eroded by inflation, but the difference between a positive savings account interest rate and a negative car payment interest rate is quite large Comment from : @mirandadamsmith |

We can barely save 20 percent and you guys want us to add a car payment on top of that ? Our main car is 12 years old and it may only last 2 to 3 years I dont think you guys are being realistic about people like us who live in the real world needing to save up for a car Not everyone makes over $100, 000 a year !!
