Love hand-sewing (especially leather) but can't use a sewing machine for Now, for my 52th birthday, this is my gift to myself: instead of an hour of doomscrolling, spend it learning a new skill And my first "project" - once I can keep a straight line and even tension - is to make a small curtain Don't care how long it takes, but I'll always know when looking at it

This has only made me even more intimidated and nervous to try doing this for my first time I just really really wish ide paid more attention to my Mom everyday ide seen her sewing and quiltingshe's now in a nursing home and isn't able to use her hands the same way to be able to sew But I can't bring myself to get rid of or sell her sewing machines or sergerI know they're worth a ton I remember my Dad buying them for her and it being like a, well we can either remodel the bathroom or kitchen or get the server, of course my parents being artist minds and not too concerned with the appearance of our home, they chose the serger,lol But I know it was worth it really, my mom sewed everything, from shirts of my Dads to pants, skirts coveralls jumpers even socks, my bathing suits, so cool cus my best friend and I always got to have matching clothes my Mom would make us and we'd get to go pick out what fabrics we'd want, every single blanket on all our family's and friends beds are her quilts she'd sewn, all our kids baby blankets she'd made, like seriously everything we had my Mom made, pretty cool Granted I didn't understand the level of talent my Mother had for doing this my whole life but I've definitely grown to see and learn how absolutely invaluable her sewing truly was for our familyjust one of her quilts would sometimes take her a year to finish, some of her really intricate ones ide seen her work on for many yearsI'm now left with the responsibility of going through hundreds of her quilts trying to figure out what to do with them because I personally don't have the space to keep them all, im trying to figure out what the safest best way is to at least store them until my siblings and I have the time to sit down and go through everything, and learned really quick Quilts are extremely high maintenance when it comes to safely storing them long term and in a matter that will not damage them in any wayeven just folding them is bad for a quilt, can't air tight seal them eitherwho would of know hublabbering here Ide just hoped to find a video that'd help me learn to utilize these hugh quality expensive sewing machines I have now
