I really enjoyed this video, Becky! You brought up some great points about parenting that got me thinking However, I do feel like the emphasis on emotional validation might not always be the best approach Sometimes it seems like kids need structure and discipline even more than understanding their feelings What do you all think? Comment from : @AbilaBako |

Fiction vs reality 😅😂 you have to show your kids who's in charge and why Move on and do not spoil them Comment from : @7_of_9 |

Parenting should emcompass empathy, not sympathy, particularly fleeing emotions Kids look up to their parents as leaders of their families, so acting as one anchors them for a life of challenges and responsibilities That is their #1 job Comment from : @mellow-jello |

Do not raise your child alone or a loan You cant let a parent off the hook for not paying child support Stop the hate crimes against women raising children I seen alot of children and single moma moms struggle and go without That is not the women's fault, but the dads Dads do the right thing, regardless Comment from : @ShariCory |

8:13 had me sobbing on the floor [ good tears ] -- trying to overcome generational traumas here and be a better parent Comment from : @xiaokuer_schmetterling5805 |

This is such an easy and powerful way to handle the situation, separate your identity from your behavior, work on yourself, repair yourself and repair with your child Absolute eye opener Thank you Dr Becky Comment from : @skluhana |
the speaker is so hard to listen to even though the subject is very relevant to me - I struggled to get to the end of the short video Comment from : @ripprind |
Decent talkbrbrShe says she is finally filling in a gap in our understanding, but she basically articulated the Biblical view of sin, repentance, and forgiveness (as she should!) The talk is an old idea wrapped in the new therapeutic religion, which is a little ironic because the only time she mentioned sin by name was to demonize it Comment from : @ws-uf1yb |
TIL parent rhymes with parrot Comment from : @deanwhite4546 |
Nothing eye opening here My parents divorced when I was very young I had a wonderful father, and a not so great mother I identified and understand this when I was maybe 9 The dichotomy between my two worlds maybe helped Comment from : @-Swamp_Donkey- |

Poor explanation and too much fluff Ted talks used be short and informative Its Shameful how this ted talk was used no more than a marketing platform for this lady's personal business promotion Makes me wonder are the Ted talk slots open for purchase now? Comment from : @relaxinfreetime |
Uh duh The highest level person in yhis field is giving a ted talk and the advice is the most basic thing possible Respect your kids as individuals and how you eould want others to treat yourself Comment from : @Ouroboros_FuFu |
I dont think being yelled or spanked was overall a bad or traumatic event if you really were in the wrong Those are not the things i look back and say i have trauma for, now being told im not loved that right there was it, my mom was veryverbal with it, whether im doing sumn right or wrong, oberall i forgave her after soul searching, i understood she was growing as well I can yell at my child sometimes and we can talk about it, but most she needs to know shes loved Comment from : @carolinesspeaks |
Truth, i didn't watch the video I just have a question My son is 24 and i made certain promises to him when he was young I promised him as long as he stayed in school and had good grades he wouldn't have to worry about lifes little things I promised to cover the small things like phone, car payments, car insurance and basic spending needs He graduated from UDub with a degree in computer engineering He now makes more money than me We are still on the same phone plan (that i pay for) and a new car insurance (that he pays for) The cost of his phone basically offsets the cost of my share for insurance Ive paid his phone bill ( not to mention his car payment for 6 months after he graduated) He recently found car insurance cheaper than I was paying Je obtained a new policy and is asking me to pay my part to cover me on his policy But, he doesn't want to pay to cover his part of the phone bill because of our previous arrangement about me paying for him How would you deal with it? Comment from : @kj-yb7ie |
How do you do this with an adult relationship? Often times the other person will not accept this and do the same to help avoid in the future Sure im doing it and ill do better but odds are that the inccident will happen again because most adults wont voluntarily do this How do we do this adult relationships? Comment from : @swisheropp |
I get that snapping at the kid was bad, but why are his actions ok? He needs to be taught to be grateful Comment from : @robertwallace5498 |

Cut to the chase… too much Blabla la Comment from : @emcee1337 |
This is how kids never understand they may have done something wrongand don't become good people in the future - they always think it's the other people's faultno matter what they did Comment from : @theprimer7647 |
But how does the child learn gratitude in this whole scenario? What if I hadn't shouted at him when he said chicken was boring ? Comment from : @harishr6740 |
I cried out of the blue at 13 minutes, at the visceral exercise, thanku ❤❤❤❤ Comment from : @ayeshakhan6279 |

Love the talk but the premise that "you are not what you do" (separate you and your behavior) sounds invalid to me Comment from : @tactapologetics |
Sooo you’re apologising to your child for them being an a hole … aaah okay … 👍 Comment from : @Stubs66 |
I find not yelling helps the most, don’t put yourself in the position of needing to repair Comment from : @cyrildixon4997 |
Hello, I'm from west Africa, sometimes when I listen to ao called child Expert in the western or rich countries, they always forget to mention that this theorie only work on their culture, I challenge All of the to try and implement these theories in an African child who was raised in a real African household with their own culture and reality, so they should mention that it only works for centaine people but not all Comment from : @thiamabdoulaye-vy6ee |
optimizing parenting has obviously been the most important thing in the 300 thousand or so years that people have been parenting Comment from : @ArtMacenzi |

??? 😅 the child was being ungrateful and nasty You snap I think they need to self reflect on what they did You can certainly go talk to them afterwards… you certainly should apologize if you acted out of self regulation and lost control But I would make it known how disappointed I am by their ungrateful behavior Comment from : @happypizza9115 |
The strategy should be… not yelling at the kid in the first place Comment from : @moturisandeep |
This is the best example that billionaires and smart people like Elon isn’t always right Comment from : @diannesaliente4233 |
If you need real practical advice, ask an older parent who have grown kids Comment from : @pumpthewater419 |
So repair actually means just to apologise Comment from : @mehreensajan7416 |
No, not all parents yell Comment from : @Mervin-Mullet |
“child not causing your behaviour “ that’s incorrect statement isn’t it? The cause of a whole situation is a child’s behaviour It doesn’t take away parent’s responsibility but admitting the obvious is quite misleading Comment from : @legatodi3000 |
Yup! What’s she calls repair I call to apologize and I have done it so many times with my little man I say sorry and talk to him and say that he is doing great and explain that being an adult can be stessful sometimes I tell him I love him and I need to stop being a meany Kids are smart, they listen As a parent you can mess up but if you say sorry, talk to them and give them love…you good YEAHHH!!! Comment from : @Gabrielsancheese |
great video, Becky! I appreciate the insights you shared however, I wonder if the focus on just one strategy might oversimplify the complexities of parenting every child is unique, and what works for one might not work for another just a thought! Comment from : @ushskahshehaikah |
Repair I love hearing that I’ve been learning NVC and it’s an amazing tool for doing just that Comment from : @SuperRicky1974 |
