i got $160000 for scrapping a 25 yr old cnc machine it broke my heart as it was still a nice machine but needed a new control system and servo motors so would have cost more than to replace it plus we couldn't get anyone to upgrade it in our part of the us

As an electrician I pull aluminum feeders occasionally Few years ago had subdivision with all aluminum feeders kept all scrap and added to a pile with some fpl loops I had from countless changeovers from overhead to underground feeds The looked daunting Took me 2 8hr days in my backyard running the through the stripping machine I made a whole 39 dollars I don't keep aluminum anymore I give it away

They don’t pay for aluminum anymore, it’s not worth the time for collecting it and having piles laying around till it’s enough to make a trip It won’t even pay for time and gas I just throw away in with the rest of the trash

I grew up on a farm so my thinking may be different, but it Probably wouldn’t be as impressive if you said how much all that aluminum square tubing cost to buy If you had cut those prototypes apart, for your parts stack, the pieces would’ve eventually been used on future projects avoiding cutting large sticks for small pieces and not having to go get a large stick when you just need a little piece, etc you would’ve come out better long run both economically and time wise My parts pile has saved me from having to stop everything and run into town for materials to repair something on many occasions By my reckoning, you threw money away But you do you boo

The liquid you use in your mailing machines it’s gonna make your aluminum Costco go down because now they either have to wash that metal or put it in a special count That sucks up all the toxins from the liquid you use that brings down the price of those blue barrels, have a good day

What's not disclosed here is the "overhead" involved in obtaining the scrap, ie labor, fuel and vehicle Factor all that in and your profit will be minimal
