I have recently been diagnosed ASD 1 with learning disabilities in my 50's I struggled through school and my mother was told by one of my elementary teachers that I would never make it to college I was overlooked as being slow and always placed in the lowest reading, math, language arts classes With years of tutoring and hard work, I graduated college with a 35 GPA It is so sad that children were not given the proper ways to learn and excel in their education The teachers did not want to go out of their way to help these poor children As an adult, I still struggle with certain things but I am so glad to have the resources and help today that I should have received as a child

Carrie shows that each child has a hidden talent He may not be academically able to cope, but his art is amazing Even his art at the age of 8 is pretty cool He is happy when he is drawing, and it shows You just need someone to believe in you

I was that way in the 1960s I couldn't make it and got picked on and bullied for years I would play Hookey a lot In the 1960s it was safe for a child to wonder all over town to kill time and go home and pretend I was at school

Let me tell you guys a story about theses teachers now theses days when I was little I use to not focus on my work and talk to my friends and all that stuff and they sent me to a class called "HSP" I was marked for "ADHD" when I didn't have it there point of marking me with "ADHD" was bc of the way I was not focusing the truth was I didn't want to do the work and They literally and I mean literally they wanted to put me on medication for no reason and they didn't even look further into it and also yes I did use to write my words backwards when i was little like shown in the video but It didn't mean i was "retarded" i was just confused on witch way a b or a d 's belly would go lol any ways my point is they put kids on medication for absolutely no reason when they think you have a disability

It’s not the teachers, it’s the parents It’s obvious to the teachers that their student has a disability, but they can’t do anything about it unless it’s documented Parents don’t believe that their perfect children could ever have any disabilities, they just think they’re being “kids” Documented kids are usually put into classrooms with others alike so they can move at slower paces Teachers really do want to help but the parents make that difficult So stop blaming teachers Public education in america is underfunded also

I am 71 I was finally diagnosed as severe Asperger/ASD1 at age 64 Tested 135 IQ My grades spiralled from a high A in grade one to failing grade nine, dropping out after grade 10 Living with an overlooked disability really does suck rocks But it REALLY sucked in the 50s and 60s

This was me in the 60’s and still have these problems -just about every single one they show Example when the teacher asked to repeat the words she said i still couldn’t do it now I still feel embarrassed as adult and at work I feel I can’t do anything right Very frustrating and to this day no confidence whatsoever Now in my 60’s i still can’t erase the shame and sadness

I have ADD and had a learning disability all my life Particularly in math and science I had to have an IEP and attend the retarded remedial classes all my life But I found a tutor, studied hard, and hounded the heck out of my professors office hours! I ended up passing pre algebra, algebra 1 , 2 and statistics I have a bachelors degree YOU CAN DO IT! God is good
