Video Games are NOT the future of education Education prepares us for the real world Video Games however are not the real world The real world is dull and full of routine, compared to video games Video games offer a lot of stimulation, which is fine for recreational purpose, but if a person is used only to such stimulation, he would be unprepared for the real lifebrbrYes, video games are great at grabbing attention and teaching stuff But all that is useless if the person shows signs of ADD in the real world because it lacks the stimulation he had while learning Comment from : @napillnik |

So now we have to rely on EA to teach our childrenbfacepalm/b Comment from : @nirvit1932 |

So many chiefs, not enough indians What happens when young people realise they cannot all be the mayer of their new town? What happens when they find they have to work alongside somebody in a team? What happens when they have to "communicate"? Comment from : @TurboTelytJim |

Why is it sometimes hard to get drunk? Comment from : @justinpershall2445 |
What a terrible, terrible game to pick Sim City 4 would have been miles ahead on the simulation/learning front Instead they picked a massively buggy (on release), feature-barren ripoff of a game, arguably the second-worst in the "franchise" (the worst being the pay-to-play mobile app) Comment from : @IstasPumaNevada |
Why not teach the kids by blowing up the PC running SimCity by using a microwave oven transformer connected to the motherboard? Comment from : @SproutyPottedPlant |
This reminded me of a video called "this will revolutionize education" by veritasium Comment from : @drakan4769 |

I teach my students with Call of Duty They taught me how to say 'i banged yer mum' I learned a lot from that session from them Comment from : @whereeveritgoes |
What's interesting is that I have that game, SimCity, it's a good game, and she's absolutely correct You have to manage the city just so, and it can be quite difficult Comment from : @MatthewMcLain12 |
Lel, the new SimCity is shit Too easy and too restrictive This woman may know her shit about education, but when it comes to gaming she seems really clueless SimCity (especially the new one) is a very bad example of problem solving gameplay Comment from : @ze_rubenator |
if this woman can make anything good out of the latest simcity, she deserves a nobel prize Comment from : @maxsalvail3397 |
the quality of content on this channel has just gone down the drain lately Comment from : @ChristianArreguin |
It is a good idea to keep current and try change the education system But what I believe is currently the main issue holding back education is the one size fits all approach Every child and person are unique and learn in different ways I understand that logistically it wouldnt be possible to give every child an education tailored specifically towards thier learning style So what i suggest is a more adaptable education system Comment from : @itastain |
I can see games becoming an important part of education, but not replacing the whole thing Comment from : @therealEmpyre |
This is really messed up I can understand using the game like this to teach economics and management However the focus on pollution and the environment is the very thing that's wrong with our educational system It's breeding a new generation of brainwashed leftist dronesbrbrHow about this scenario, take a Rust Belt City like Detroit, Buffalo, Rochester, Allentown, etc and fix it up and make it thrive? That's far more relevant and useful than worrying about pollution Comment from : @CaptainBill22 |
I too miss captain slow friends Comment from : @jaggedsigns3O11 |
Call of Duty: Long Division Warfare? Comment from : @DylanBenson |

i guess James May is not on this channel anymore, too lazy to unsubscribe Comment from : @ascendingdrive |
I see Simcity in the background Perhaps a real time strategy game would have made a better backdrop as it requires a LOT of fast thinking Comment from : @TheChiramu |
Oregon Trail anyone? Comment from : @Mcrawf21 |
I hate these videos I signed up for Captain Slow explaining things Give me more of that! Comment from : @MaxFrisch84 |
I think the trick to using gaming as a learning tool is by tricking the player into thinking no learning is happening My reading skill increased loads when I started playing Pokemon and Zelda If you button mashed the convos you'd be screwed cuz you didn't know what to do next Comment from : @evanid321 |
First word I learned to spell was Loading Comment from : @sandwich2473 |
Probably not, I allways thought it would be hyper intelegent tutor robots with advanced AI post singularity Comment from : @sandwich2473 |
Simcity 2013 isn't the future of anything They should've used the most recent good one, Simcity 4 Comment from : @philipjohansson3949 |
Oh and shut up about how crappy SimsCity is, the video is no damn game review Comment from : @KevonDT440 |
I don't think video games should be employed in the educational system (yet)brThe kids may acquire some problem solving skills, which is great, but the games hypothetically played in classrooms should deal with more general problems or at the base similar problems in different scenarios and games Otherwise the children become good at a game, not at problem solving in generalbrIn conclusion:brGames in schools?brYes, absolutely, if diverse problems and diverse settings for related problems are employedbrBut for now I'm sticking with books for learningbrAnd YT ;) Comment from : @KevonDT440 |
SIMCITY is the world leading city simulator ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) Comment from : @ataarono |
Sim city 2013 isn't a simulation game That would acquire actual simulation and not randomly generated things Play it once und you will understand Comment from : @remowyss |
But the new simcity is shit, it is a really bad game They should habe used simcity 2000 Or any other game Comment from : @joshinils |
Simsbrdamn casuals Comment from : @tamerdp |
The new SimCity is crap Comment from : @Box0898 |
As a gamer, honesty, I do not exactly like this idea I feel like everytime I am force to do anything, i kinda end up hating it Its just like went i was in secondary school, we had to review a book and stuff i personally love books But if ur gonna force me to read so that i have better grades, i would hate reading anything Comment from : @1997kx |
I'll say what I allways say: tell this to my teacher pleasebrThis is the best way to go, but I've seen this too many times and still nothingbrThere are ideas about changing education since the internet began (at least from what I know) but we still learn like 200 years ago Comment from : @AntHero18 |
I play simcity too Comment from : @veeeeeedub |
All seems well until she says "the new SimCity, world leading simulation game", just goes to show that she may have knowledge about "the education system that we've been using for hundreds of years", but is lacking knowledge on gaming The game was a massive flop Why do they absolutely have to utilize these AAA games known for their exploitation of customers Bad teacher means bad learning, in this case the game would become the teacher That's what you get when old dogs are attempting to invent new tricks themselves We need more flexibility, not more students assembled on conveyor belts Comment from : @OldmansCC |
not simcity brsimcity is one of the worst games out there brbrbr simcity is not one of the world's leading simulation games, simcity 4 is the world's leading simulation games Comment from : @Adenlqy |

I'd have more confidence in this speaker if she spoke in statements instead of question inflection so often :/ Comment from : @CaptChrispy |
