Latin is probably worth learning for a number of reasons, including some mentioned in this video But it is worth noting that a lot of these so called benifits he mentions are correlation, not causation People who learn latin may statistically get paid more, that doesn't mean if you learn latin your odds of getting paid more go up It means that the average person who learns latin is statistically likely to come from a weather home and have higher education which affords them the oppurtunity to learn latin Thereby increasing their odds (unrelated to their latin learning, but related to their higher education) of getting paid more That is just one example, he listeed several "reasons to learn" that fall into this same category Entertaining video, but this all really should have been clarified Comment from : @KermitsBadFurDay |

Classical Latin actually hasn’t changed in 2000 years not 1500, the Latin of 1500 years ago was the late Roman “Vulgar Latin”, vulgar in this instance meaning common “Peasant Latin” and nothing to do with swearing Comment from : @djionmustard5921 |
I started learning Latin “knowing” it was “useless” to me outside of my historical research and that at best it will make learning Spanish a tad easier Comment from : @djionmustard5921 |

You're wrong about pater and patriarchy Yes, pater certainly meant father However, patriarchy had a completely different meaning in Ancient Latin, than today's meaning While the modern meanings of patriarchy and matriarchy give NO clues about their ancient meanings Patriarchy meant "the father's rule" of divorce In patriarchy, the father got the children after divorce However, in matriarchy, by long legal traditions, the mother's rule prevailed So, the mother got the children after divorce, even if these states were governed by men Matriarchy did not mean a society governed by women It only described the legal divorce laws of neighboring states IOW, linguistically, the Ancient Latin, "patriarchy" and "matriarchy" are completely false friends of modern English Though, I applaud you for learning a little about Ancient Latin, your explanation of "patriarchy" is wrong Comment from : @meenki347 |

Unfortunately I don't actually study any language Because studying suppose to train every day But in Latin there are a lot of religious texts, biographies of saints, prayers and so on I obviously think that language must be used So we have studied French to read about art as Italian, German to read magazines , Hebrew, Greek to read Bible And also Latin Of course if person is not religious or not a doctor, Latin wouldn't be useful Comment from : @ОксанаТульпа |

I'm curious if learning Latin grammar has any benefits on logical thought that other languages dont have brEvery reason you gave is also true of Spanish and French Higher pay, different way to think, understanding English words and grammar better, learning the skill of learning Spanish and French also have the added bonus of widening the number of living people you can communicate with So Spanish and French > Latin Comment from : @YeshuaIsTheTruth |
Better option: just still studying english as an italian native speaker, and you'll find easier use in your english vocabulary the Latin like words Comment from : @LoscoX |
It's 'flocci non facis', not 'floccos' If you want to be pedantic on Latin, you should at least now that value judgments in Latin with 'facere' take the genitive of the perceived value of the object, not the accusativebrbr'Floccos non facis' means 'You are not making wool' Comment from : @mjm0787 |

Studying Latin does not make you smarter nor wiser These are also dangerous and elitist fallacies Comment from : @Andathil117 |

The phrase at 4:24 should be flocci non facis, not flaccos non facis Comment from : @Andathil117 |
You make the case well Thanks for that Keep up the good fight If you can reach today's youth, who don't read and who, in fact, can't read in the traditional sense, you will be a blessing Comment from : @dancarrison9354 |
I speak Italian, give better ideas why learning Latin would be useful! Well, Classical Latin from the first Century AD is one tiny part of the history of the Romance language - what about Medieval Latin? Comment from : @MrMarcvus |
according to a report by the bbc in LondonbrbrThe English language:brbr1- It uses and depends on the Roman alphabet (in my opinion this is a fundamental reason for being a hybrid language)br2-His vocabulary is 60 Latinbr3- Its grammar is 38 Latin (denying the legend that its grammar is 100 Germanic) Other sources state that it is 39 LatinbrbrTherefore, it is philologically impossible to consider the English language as a Germanic language English is really a hybrid Comment from : @georgebaccett9951 |
