I once heard that the phonetics of the German alphabet are extremely similar to the Latin pronunciation Is there any truth to this? Comment from : @mike-wh5hd |

I’m not into this convention of short and long vowels The Calabrese one makes more sense to me as a Romance language speaker Short and long vowel sounds as they are in English are non existent in any Romance languages today so it sounds like an English speaker applying their native sounds to Latin Long vowel in the Calabrese convention just means it’s the same sound but longer It doesn’t actually change the sound itself Comment from : @NightOwl_30 |

Why are you using Spanish to compare the latin pronunciation?? The closest language to latin nowadays is italian, not spanish, since Italian evolved from the vulgar latin in the area of Rome, which was the root for every aspect of the language Spanish instead evolved from vulgar latin of Hispania region, which was little different As a consequence, the Italian is the closest language to latin considering the pronunciation Comment from : @vampiriclion1176 |

The positives of coming from a country that has a complicated language is that pronouncing isn’t so complicated in most languages due to the language being both a curse and a blessing upon its people (Exception being Romanian and some others) Comment from : @srmental5876 |

At 3:45 in the example you show, you pronounce CH like [kh] However, it represented [kʰ] in Latin for transcribing the Greek χ(chi) so (at least by educated people) CH was pronounced just like the "c" in English "car" C on the other hand, was always pronounced unaspirated like the "c" in English "scar" This is true for TH and PH too Comment from : @Randomperson-dj5yv |

I don’t know I think the Calabrese pronunciation is more faithful to Classical Latin Not only do I think it sounds better, but most Romance languages don’t have that weak U and short I With the exception of French (and Romanian?) which had a lot of Germanic contact And Slavic respectively Comment from : @leteusaurantiaco8972 |
