Add one thingplay with another player I stopped playing bass for almost 25 years That ended when I waa blessed with a occasion to play with friends, for a friends party We had a hoot, and that became a band of friends for over 10 years

I am 71 and learned a few simple songs on the recorder 55 years ago I am building a huge modular synth (lots of sequencers - no keyboard … 🙄)brBut I will get the DIY bass I just bought together and WILL start learn how to play brHere in Sweden we tell our kids that there are three things important to learn: to swim, to bike and to ski (or to skate) I would say, learning to play an instrument (any) is also important as it improves the social skills

lol this video killed me I studied bass at university, gigged frequently and practiced pretty well until I went out and tried to work as a session bassist after graduating Realised I wasn’t really good enough, became super disconnected from bass and didn’t play for months or years at a time Ended up changing tack completely career-wise and now I’m a lawyer who has recently bought a new bass and am slowly falling in love with playing again in my 30s Your video catalogue has been really helpful, so thank you!

Before YouTube and TikTok, the only reason to play a bass was to play in a band And musicians are notoriously unreliable And gigging was practically non-existent to all but the most diligent So unless you were in a band, the bass was kind of useless You can't actually take a bass to a beach and strum folk songs while your girlfriend's getting eaten by a shark, but you can do that with an acoustic guitar Also, weren't Gin Blossoms from Phoenix?

The music theory part I have always had a hard time rapping my head around, so I think im going to start from step one Learn notes, not tabs, learn scales, chords, roots, octaves, and keys so I can play with others Goal is to be able to improvise with the sole knowledge of what key the guitar players inbrAlso Josh you are hilarious Subbed!
