You should be buying only Gold Eagles If you go to sell anything other than a gold eagle, who you sell it to, the shop you sell it to, is obligated under the law to report the transaction to the IRS However Gold Eagles are no different than exchanging $100 bill for 20s it's considered currency and you're just making change, no reporting is required by the shop you sold it to it is up to you to report any capital gains
