This sounds kind of illogic to me, because from a fake Silver coin i would assume it contains magnetic metal which would make it stick to the magnet while from a real Silver coin that should not be magnetic i would expect the fast slide

It's easy to test weight and specific gravity at home But with the 'magnet test' it can be difficult Would greatly appreciate footage of testing lead-copper counterfeit vs silver

I put a piece of tape over the magnet faces so it would not scratch the coins surface Unfortunately other metals slide slowly 🐌 as well but this is a great first step at finding a fake

This is NOT diamagnetism This is the eddy current effect, an indirect measure of electrical conductivity Copper coins will do the same thing, but not quite as much

If you slide a later year clad quarter down the slide it will also have a slower descent New quarters are made from 915 copper and 63 Nickel When I looked it up it stated Silver weighs 1049/dm3 copper 893 kg/dm3 and nickel weighs 88 kg/ dm3

pawn shop tried to con me He used a neodymium magnet glued to an end of a stick and waved it over my silver coin, it made the coin move slightly about a few millimeters, he did this to all the coins in the roll He said they were fake, even though they were all circulated and from different mints! He offered me 5 bucks yes 5 bucks per coin! That must be expensive fakes I went online and found this vid I just saved hundreds of dollars thanks to you! Oh and that shady store is Avalon Pawn Shop in Temple city, CA Avoid it at all cost! Those reviews are inaccurate!

Your explanation isn't accurate It doesn't happen because of Diamagnetism, It happens because of the lower Electrical resistance of pure Silver The eddy current flow is much higher in case of low resistance materials like copper and even greater in silver Greater eddy current induces magnetism in opposite direction of the magnetic fluxes if the rail

copper behaves exactly the same as silver with the neodymium magnets This absolutely can not distinguish pure silver from silver plated copper, nor from cupro-nickle- this is only useful to see if your coin is pure nickel, pure aluminum, iron or some combination thereof
