Call backs and count-downs may work with some students, but certainly not all I've seen throughout my teaching career that when you do this, they will continue talking It is as if the teacher is not even there and the call back was not even given Even when doing it over and over in a positive manner, many times in a row, without getting frustrated, and remaining consistent, students will ignore you It is definitely not a reliable technique!

I teach at a Title I schoolThese tips are for moderately well-behaved students at best This sh*t doesn't work for my impoverished students Most come from broken homes with so much trauma, and so they're dealing with a lot of emotional issues, and restraint is a work in progress for them That said, I love those kids, especially because I see the great need in these communities I build relationships with them through comedy Otherwise, I'd never get them to work hard for me or br listen, and I am a very stern teacher I'm a Black teacher, so I don't play Mmmkay

The thing is I've got one of the hardest class in the school I started with hocus hocus time to focus and one the kid started to telling ford focus and other car brands so it didn't work Now I am thinking maybe I can go with class class class but I think they are gonna reply with very rude way of What When I yell it totally doesn't work It's just supeeeeerrr hard class

I'm a supply teacher With large classes in big rooms these tips rarely work You can get one side quiet but if you move so the other side notices you the first side start talking These are great tips if you have a chance to see a class repeatedly because relationships really make a difference

What I do to make my class quite most times is to greet them first and allow them to respond, talk to small group, or call names of those talking to get their attention

for high school, i'll sometimes make wierd noises or shout: ahhhhhh! something strikingly wierd and it'll get their attention and it's funny too our staff meeting before school started was interesting, when the faculty got too noisy, one of the presenter said: waterfall, waterfall, and the faculty replied: Shhhhhhhhhhhhh

Ive been using a call bell to catch their attention one tap on the bell means they have to be quiet second tap on bell means they have to pick mess under their chair and 3rd bell to sit up straight or sometimes in the count of 3… they will do the same whom wont follow wont get a health break or left tk clean the room

Yes absolutelyam facing the same situationI just started a week agowell I was quite in the beginning while they talkingit doesn't fetch any resultsthey think that they can just continue talking since I am silent when they talkingthey are least attentive and behave as if I don't exist in the classroom at all😂 Now changed the pattern by raising my voice a bit and trying to calm them downyes it eventually changing the situationnot completely but yes to certain extentit's an impossible task every day I just spend atleast 5-10 mins on setting up things which has become routine everyday now But hopefully it will change down the lineas a stubborn teacher I don't want to give up I will stick to the pattern until I get the control over that noisy classroom
