Most of the US Mint’s commemorative gold coins have been in the size of $5 gold half eagles There were three exceptions when the US Mint made commemorative $10 gold coins These were the 1984 Olympics Ten Dollar Gold Eagle featuring Los Angeles Coliseum Torch Runners, the 2000 Library of Congress Commemorative Bi-Metallic Platinum & Gold Ten Dollar Gold Coin and the 2003 First Flight Centennial $10 Gold Coin featuring Orville and Wilbur Wright

Samuel P Langley, secretary of the Smithsonian Institution from 1887 until his death in 1906, experimented for years with model flying machines and successfully flew unmanned powered model aircraft in 1896 and 1903 Two tests of his manned full-size motor-driven Aerodrome in October and December 1903, however, were complete failures Nevertheless, the Smithsonian later proudly displayed the Aerodrome in its museum as the first heavier-than-air craft "capable" of manned powered flight
