Pete why do you have throw away the guns used for high build primers? Do those primers have something that ruins your gun? Would you use a harbor freight gun like that for high build epoxy primer? I have one devilbis gun and don’t want to ruin it Comment from : @jimdrechsel3611 |

Using the same gun over and over develops perfect muscle memory also It's all about air pressure, gun distance and speed for each material Watch the product go and make those adjustments as needed And yes, another gun for spray on body filler and the small gun My small gun was $16 and sprays glass It's not the tools that make the man work - its the man that makes the tools work, as you basically said Good video Pete Comment from : @gerwin2943 |
That's funny - my 1st paint job was with a Binks 7 in 1991 Comment from : @gerwin2943 |

Thank you thank you thank you My first gun was a devilbiss starting line Cheap gun I have a 13, 18, and a 20 tip for it I've done everything with it And all my jobs have come out great! Even did house furniture with it Only issue with it was orange peel But I did all primers, bases and clears with it Comment from : @crazgreek |
I agree except if you're lazy like me I Have a clear coat gun (12 mm), base coat (13mm), and a 3M PPS that uses disposable heads of different sizes for primers and fillers, The reason for the three is to avoid cross-contamination: I'm not a professional just an eager DIY garage motorhead, But i agree every you tube expert seems to always be pushing different guns Comment from : @MrDIYMUSCLE |
I won't buy another harbor freight mini pressure pot They are junk!!! I bought 4 of them for a project using evercoat feather fill Three were junk out of the box, the other 2 sprayed cleaning thinner when i opened them Mixed up polyester filler, wouldn't spray it I don't know if an internal air passage had a decefect, but it cost me $40 of material I picked up an Iwata air gunsa with a 18 tip, worked perfectly Well worth $130 Comment from : @krisn8820 |
Can't watch anymore of this all it is is yelling and yelling and yelling and rambling on Comment from : @John-st6cm |

I have an absolutely garbage-quality suction feed gun with a 20 that was 20 quid & an evenly matched POS HVLP boggo 40 quid 13 spraygun I paint nice with 'em Agree that It's mostly the nut behind the gun that matters Comment from : @jamesward5721 |
Bottom line is buy whatever the fuck you can afford Don’t listen to this channel or any other channel telling you what you can & can’t use Better quality gun just means that “if used correctly” you’ll get a great paint finish but it’s still 90 dependent on the operator Cheaper guns are great for hs primers that you have to sand over and with good technique you can make a cheap ass gun spray like a ls/ws400 or a sata but if you can afford it and it’s a hobby you enjoy i say get the best tools in your budget Tools in a hobby are just as important as the job so if you have cheap shit it’s either because you’re starting out and it doesn’t make sense to spent alot of money or it’s a sentimental value thing like him that’s had that spray gun for almost 40 years Bottom line is has long as you get into the trade we should respect whatever tools a rookie brings in & the arsenal will be built over time Comment from : @RPista |

I do find my iwata 18mm does primer far better than you will get from a 13 or 14mm Other than that iwzta for primer I use a Dv1 base for base and mid coats and a DV1 clear gun for clear Also have a DV1s mini for cerakote work i do with 07mm which you will not cerakote very good work with anything over 09mm plain and simple That is 4 guns not 29 guns I also never liked siphon feed spray guns even though at one time that was whats available I like using gravity 3m pps cups or devilbiss d kups as it saves me money in lacquer thinner from having to clean mixing cups and gravity cups since lacquer thinner is $23/gallon these days for some reason I use carb cleaner to clean my guns Binks were a good quality brand at one time Not so much now days Comment from : @HPAcustomriflesandcerakote |

Sir I have a question I was out salvaging some post and beams from an old shed There was a mid 50s chevy in it The car has a mother of pearl paint job When I hauled it out and washed her the color is so different from what we know as mother of pearl The blues and greens with flecks of red are great Are you able to tell me how they did it? and how might I replicate it? The cars in my garage The owner said since I bought the building it was my job to scrap her Comment from : @joelongstaff7601 |
What gun should I use for clear coat?br🫡🥴 Comment from : @seay_biscuit |
I agree I got a Binks 2000 it can spray primer or paint And a sata 2000 I believe stars and stripes I've sprayed everything from latex to genesis I've used sharpe devilbiss as well iwata Just get a good quality piece Model 7 is a tank I think you can still get model 7 not sure Cheap paint guns Chinese knockoffs are bullshit My personal choice is sata Nearly any quality gun can lay down a glass paint job Comment from : @karatekid6026 |
Love it Say it how it truly is I started spray painting cars at a vocational school that I went to back in 1978 Comment from : @joenmass |
You are correct, if you know how to paint a car, you can make pretty much any gun work Issue is that it depends on what type of shop you work at Working for a high production shop, I absolutely need a shit load of guns Not because I'm a greedy piece of shit, it's because I can be spraying up to 4-5 different colors at once Always have separate clear guns, as well Don't have time to break down my guns during the day So basically I have 2 primer guys, one is a back up 2 sealer guns, one is a back up, 4 base guns and 2 clear guns and yeah one is a back up Not showing off, time is money Guns need to work everytime I pick them up Comment from : @joe2017 |
why are you yelling! just talking would make your video's better you are great to learn from but you seem angry Comment from : @tandjcustoms |
This is pure gold I love people who don't buy and don't sell bullshit to others Comment from : @Pavelek88 |
I started with a Binks model 7, ever seen the one that heats enamel so it flows, drys as it hits, I have a gun for base coat and one for clear cause I'm lazy, each one set for what I like, and a cheap primer gun, Great video, tells it like it is Comment from : @thomasmorris302 |
😂😂😂 I still watch your channel because you keep it real about the paint life! Honestly I have about 4 guns and that’s the SATA bf RP 25 for polyester primers, regular primer gun air gunza 18 and my base and clear gun…IWATA LPH400 and SATA 5500 HVLP 14 And you are right about being able to use one gun because I’ve used SATA for base and clear as well as the IWATA and the finish was great with both Comment from : @whipzpaintlyfewithjay9654 |
Nope that agitator cup is used by Boeing to paint a primer on the 787 wing parts The agitator is better on the Boeing Binks cup it is run by air and it has a propeller that spins the mix on the end of a shaft The inside of the Titanium leading edges of all the wings are coated with a water thin primer (really it is a glue) that the composite wings are glued too It is mandatory that the agitator binks is used to do this part Good info I only got 10 spray guns but I have been painting for years and years If you like it and it works good for you thats the gun you will go to Treat it good and it will last a long time Comment from : @spagsketti |
The overspray n wasted material on a conventional gun,,not good Comment from : @joblo2299 |

Pete you need to make a video on how to clean a spray gun What do you clean your gun with? And how to take the gun apart and how to put the gun together? Thank you Comment from : @vancefalashetti3025 |
I'm a DIYer looking to buy a high quality spray gun but not having any idea of what I need or what to buy I'm glad I found this video first thing as I started searching for information It saved me from wasting time watching all the videos telling me I needed a specific gun for every different type of paint, primer, clear, etc And it saved me a lot of money buying all those gunsbrbrPete, you're a bit crass and a bit loud But very informative Thanks! Comment from : @bobm2637 |

My old neighbor Terry gave me a old Binks model 7 about 20 years ago I used it for priming stuff he later would paint for me I still have it and was just thinking about cleaning it up and using it I haven't painted a vehicle in years I have a new project car, and it needs the bumper cover re-sprayed Your video shows I still have the perfect spray gun for it And it will help me remember the days Terry taught me how to paint a car Comment from : @WildDigger |
Two spray guns here Binks 7 and Devilbiss Mgb, since 1982 Either would do for everything but I have two in case I drop one in the middle of a paint job It can happenbr I think the key to success is recognizing changing conditions and making constant adjustments while spraying I used one booth that had such a weird air flow speed deviation around the room that the gun had to be adjusted for each side of the car Comment from : @user-mp8er1ds9x |
Good to see your still around Pete The # 7 was the gun everyone had in their arsenal of guns I still have mine but do not use it much I worked at earl sheib when it was 3999$ got 1 gallon for 1 vehicle no matter what size it was That was back when we used hot plates to heat up the synthetic enamel Acme or Dulux or western hi glo Take care Pete We are moving to Utah in a year or so As soon as my son can get a transfer to the Rio tinto mine Im going to put up a barndominium up there I hope to come by and meet you in person I've always liked your style If your going to hit someone they will know it and no lollygagging around Too many beta males running around and in power now Sometimes a man just needs to know he fucked up and get a punch in the snot locker No lollygagging I admire that Take it easy Pete Comment from : @fenderveal7339 |

Thanks: Pete for setting me straight I had a retired aircraft re finisher friend give me a Devilbiss spray gun 40 years ago, he used to spray every finish in the aviation industry I decided to put a new set of fenders on my 2004 dodge and paint them myself I started to fall into the HVLP trap with the nozzles and cups, that I knew nothing about I took a chance, and used the old gun I was taught with, and I could not believe the quality of the finish that gun laid down, in fact I think it was very forgiving in some cases New is not always better Only wish I could go back and buy a new truck of that era with the price tag to match Cheer's Canada Comment from : @harryyoung7076 |

Bunks 18 Comment from : @ronsaathoff1561 |
This guy is no professional Just list to the his language Yes you can get decent results using a cheaper spray gun But when you begin using high build primers and polyester primers you are going to need a gun with at least a 20 needle Yes I know a 18 may work with some primers Also you will need a gun with a 13or 14 needle for base and clear Comment from : @joshsmith5448 |
