I shout insults at every panhandler and especially people who I see giving money to them Shaming them both is the only way to get rid of them

Honestly I've never given money to panhandlers - I don't know why I just haven't Actually once I did but that was b/c someone helped me park and she only wanted 50 cents to get a muffin - and did go to a muffin shop so I think it was legit, but other than that no The strangest place I've been panhandled is Rapid City, South Dakota

If I have some extra food on me, I will give food to people who are visibly homeless every single time I have enough food and there is never a time when I think it is a wrong thing to give food to a hungry person Every time I have done this, the person has gladly accepted the gift of a snack or mealbrbrI never carry cash, so that is not usually something I even need to consider as a possibility Although if someone asks, and I have nothing for them I do try to at least make eye contact with that person and wish them a good day I may not always have cash, but kindness costs me nothing so I always try to give at least that

There are times in the past when I have given to pan handlers, when they seemed genuinely sincere about their situation I once saw an African American gentleman on the subway in Chicago who was a burn victim He had almost no fingers left, and his nose and ears had been burned away He walked through the train carrying a plastic bucket Without hesitation all the African Americans on the train reached for their wallets and purses and put money in the bucket as he walked by None of the Caucasians, including myself, gave him any money I promised myself the next time I would give him some money, but I never saw him again I still feel regret to this day I was so slow to react to his need

I live in a suburb of San Francisco and I never give to people in the city because you are just overwhelmed with the insane rates of homelessness and mental illness but every once in a while a family will be in my local shopping center and i am compelled to give I probably give way more money than I should but I can't help but think that it could be me or my mom out there if circumstances were different I think kindness and compassion are so important when dealing with other people so I give whatever I can when I can afford it

Panhandlers often approached me when I was going to work They almost always say it's for food I always offered my lunch to them and they always declined it, often with a sneer I offered 1 guy a yogurt and he said, "I don't eat that shit" One girl, in Bushwick, approached me holding a baby saying it was for "milk" There was a grocery store a few feet away I told her to come into the grocery store with me and I'd buy her any groceries that she needed She declined It's 99 bullshit

I am constantly reminded of the Holy Gospel according to St Matthew, Chapter 25, verses 31-46 That is how I would judge my own actions when approached by a Panhandler or Homeless person
