Hey man! I volunteer at a reuse/recycling facility in Cincinnati Do you just update your Macs to the latest OS they will run natively, or do you use opencore to bring them up to date? If using opencore, do you just create an admin profile and set it up that way? I'm just so nervous about most people skill level that I end up selling them for $10-$40 depending on grade and year I just bring the rarest ones home for my personal collection I'm also known as The Mac Guy, but conflicts of interest keep me from personally making a profit It's all about the non-profit

I only refurbish "e waste" as a hobby rather than for profit, as it's (for me anyway) impossible to register a business and charge all the taxes while giving 12 months (mandatory) warranty here in germany Even now while just charging what I have to spend on fuel and parts (usually hdd/ssd), I run into people reporting to paypal customer service and see if they get away with itbrbrI can relate to the video I'm pretty much the "IT trash guy" for a non profit, which itself gets stuff donated They only want to deal with Laptops and Apple producs, as the market for used/refurbished office PCs is so dead, they're seen as a waste of storage space and would otherwise go to the e-waste binbrbrIt's of course highly subjective, but I believe most systems Sandy Bridge and newer would have some place to be used Some might be inclined to say that that's really old junk, but a i5 2400 has more performance than a N4500 that's still sold new in chromebooks and the like, usually paired with tiny amounts of eMMc storage that will degrade quickly

I started working for myself doing audio equipment repair after covid, focusing on older tech and some gear many people think is unfixable Its been great thank you for the video I do have to disagree about FB marketplace replacing ebay I do not see that happing anytime soon too many bots, fake accounts, flakey sellers and buyers etc etc the only "improvements" marketplace has had over the past 5 years is just placing more ads If I had to sell there for a living I would have quit 6 months in 😂

if they're selling on ebay, i would think they have the infrastructure to ship items and the knowledge to know it's worth more than "$15" i'd rather try to find someone who is closer to a scrapyard and don't know or aren't paid to maximize profit or refurbish and load an OS , i think there's more leverage there

I own one of these recycling companies We try to reuse as many of the computers as we can, but usually there is too much We don't do Mac at all, we do have a few people who get Mac, but right now there is no go to guy We are in Arizona

My Dell laptop is 8 years old! I refuse to buy a new one WINDOWS 10 has been getting annoyingly slow! And guess what? I installed Ubuntu 2404 LTS, and it runs like a charm I also have an old Vista laptop and installed Ubuntu, and it runs great! Companies like Dell and Microsoft secretly advocate wastefulness on electronics, forcing you to buy new laptops and WINDOWS releases, which are craps!

I'm an IT guy with a customer in N AZ that accepts "e-waste" from businesses, and local government They reuse some of it internally or give/sell a little locally but they are often sitting on dozens or even hundreds of good quality laptops and desktops that need only minor refurbishing (hard drives are usually missing) They would LOVE to find someone to take them off their hands for cheap and put them back into service
