The problem with new pennies run much deeper than just the cost to produce thembrI metal detect for a hobby It is amazing that you can find old pennies with the Lincoln memorial on the back in near perfect condition But the new pennies with the shield on the back even if only a couple years old are hardly even recognizable they are so corroded I believe it is most likely the result of being made of 75 zinc It must be some type of galvic corrosion taking place I would think the life of these pennies could only be about 10 years before they were not usable

I'm totally ok with the MINT not producing anymore pennies as long as the ones still in circulation are still worth 1 CENT and retailers still must accept a penny or one cent as payment and there is NO rounding up to the next Coin or Nickel I am NOT ok with the removal of the Penny coin as accepted cash currency No new penny coins, ok however that should not change digital forms of payment via Cash APP, Apple Cash, DEBIT and Credit cards, etc the banking system and retailers, should still accept payment to the one cent or $ 001 denomination
