Certification companies now should ALWAYS photograph coins I've been shouting this for years, because a counterfeiter would have to fake the coin to match the photo exactly This needs to happen now!

I actually had fake Indian Heads, but the thing about it is that back in the day of our civil war people were making fake coins but they were made of real gold, now me personally, I would love to have NGC or PCGS clarify exactly what kind of fake it is, because me personally, I'd love to own a period correct counterfeit coin from that era, it's a piece of history

There was an ebay seller with a slabbed Kruger Pond (not Krugerrand, the Victorian Era predecessor) which was in an NGC holder complete with all the latest holographic stuff and nonsense The coin was a fake as could be seen from information readily available on line Certain identifying marks present on all these particular fakes which started to show up some years ago Initially I thought this was a question of the grading company being taken in, in which case what is the point of the grading in the first place But now I wonder if it was just a fake coin in a fake slab

This is exactly why you can't just trade coins for goods and services in our society The average guy on the street has no way of knowing if a coin is real, especially numismatic value This is why dealers have to be the middle man to convert coins to cash and vice versa, and there is a premium paid there It's much simpler to use currency because it is trusted by the public Precious metal isn't a good investment in my opinion
