Under VERA (what's been offered recently) eligible employees under age 57 will still collect an immediate pension and when they turn age 57 will also receive the "Supplement" until age 62 So this would add another category to your examples above under "Who Gets It" - correct? Comment from : @neillee3793 |
Great information! Thank you! I have 2 questions: 1) what happen if I have 30 yrs service but 10 of the years were part time? Do I use 30/40 multiple by the SS benefits at age 62? Or “30” needs to be reduced, like how they calculate retirement pension for those part time years? 2) does my supplement will be reduced if I don’t work or have active income, but my husband works and we files tax jointly? Comment from : @mylittlepony9557 |

why is the retirement calc on GRB platform so low for supplement? I have 15 years Fed service (not counting military) so my multiplier is 15/40 which is 0375 My SS benefit at 62 is $2726, so my supplement should be $1022 GRB has it at $795 Why is that? Comment from : @striperseeker |

I think your calculation for the FERS Supplement isn't quite accurate OPM doesn't go by what our SS estimate is at age 62 Instead, they calculate our salary as if we were still working up until age 62 The last three years I made over a$110K, however they will only use my base salary of $80K estimate my FERS supplement in this case it is a $300 a month difference Comment from : @dt883 |

@2:30 - Correct me if I am wrong, but I also think there is another group that gets FERS Supplement If you retire under a VERA and when you reach MRA, you get the Supplement until you are 62 Correct?? Comment from : @thepigwillfly5869 |

I have a few quetions about calculating "service" It's my understanding that unused sick leave does not count Is this correct? When obtaining you SS estimate to figure out your FERS Supplement, please keep in mind that the SSA assumes that you will continue working, earning and paying into social security until age 62 Since you are retiring early, any years between retirement and 62 will potentially be $0, so your actual PIM will be lower than the SSA estimate provided This means that your estimated FERS supplement will also be lower Comment from : @bradh9800 |
