Why Did PCGS Do This Or Am I Confused? PCGS labeled my 1859 BG-702 as a BG-703 which is unique, so as rare as it gets, and worth thousands of dollars

Hey Daniel why you showing a paper with so much information? Be aware Comment from : @Alex-sun7 |

I can't understand how a grading company can let a California fractional gold so unique be misidentified My understanding is the grading fee is higher commensurate with value I am amazed that an error such as this can happen Casts a shadow IMO of the value and importance we place on grading Comment from : @robertpintoff552 |

Wow, way to go Daniel Congratulations brCalifornia gold is a beautiful piece Comment from : @edwardaustin740 |

Amazing work here! Beyond Humbling, this helps discredit the conspiracies about grading companies gifting grades, just human subjectivity and error from us being human, it just happens ❤🤷🙏 Comment from : @levy7461 |
This is what makes me so nervous about submitting- local shop near me had an obvious issue from a recent NGC submission so unfortunately it’s happening with both Comment from : @nates4310 |

I talked to a guy who said he submitted a coin to a grading company When he got it back, it was a different coin Comment from : @spinalobifida |

I had the same thing happen to a regular 1877 Seated Half dollar I sent in last year around this time They designated it Open Bud WB-101 which is a rare off shoot With that designation (which I didn't list in my paperwork, nor pay for), and at a VF30, it listed as a top pop, worth 4 to 5 digits This made no sense to me, so I checked it out to figure what "Open Bud" meant and figured that it was the "closed" version I took pics and sent it to them and they immediately agreed ( Nice response time!) and offered to pay for the shipping and other expenses to reslab it If something is being checked by more than one person originally, how does this happen as often as I hear about it happening AND for something that rare??? I know they get a LOT of submissions, butcome on! Still go to them, but my confidence in them has wavered a bit in the last year Comment from : @silverchupacabra73 |

As always I enjoy your videos It is amazing how many great looking old coins still exsist It seems to be that melt value is the driving force now I see more people having to sell their coins for various reasons Coins from the 1800-1900's sell for melt The numanistic value is not important anymore unless you get a graded coin of ms63 or better That old feeling of holding an old silver dollar etc and wondering about the history of it and who might have held it and to dream Its worth because of its age has faded because there are so many out there Who cares to look at a brand new 2024 quarter and wonder anything about it It would never be worth anything other than 25 in my lifetime Comment from : @edwinsandel7438 |
You might have to resubmit your 1859 as a die error because the 9 is missing the lower half Even though it's been circulated condition, it still looks like there was something wrong with die brfor the date Comment from : @JackPurdy-x8t |
Wow mistakes can and do happen Comment from : @kristinebailey86 |
Either way you still got a cool coin! Comment from : @DustanThedell-xk1zn |

Intereting Well hopefully the turn around time for the correction will be quick Seems like rather a big mistake, being that it's totally misattributed(?) Comment from : @nicolasrossi5978 |
I never liked that the guarantee does not cover mistakes like that because like in this case someone that buys based on the holder has no recourse with PCGS That was one of the main reasons TPGs exist, so coins could be traded based on the labels If anything the guarantees should guarantee the date, mintmark and attribution 100 no question because they were paid to get it right and those are fact not opinion Sometimes varieties with wrong FS numbers get sold like hot potatoes just hoping it sticks someplace un-noticed until return period is past Comment from : @mymail4820 |
That coin is so horrible, I love it Were they drunk when they engraved those dies lol Comment from : @Gumardee_coins_and_banknotes |

I just found your videos I'm 67 yrs old, my dad was buying huge amounts of US Coins in the 1980s & 90s & 2000s, after his 10 years of buying a thousand collectible plates in the 1970s, he was a big fan of the Bradford Exchange type companies I spent 2 years going thru his coins, all of which were basically clad sets & proof sets, & a lot of Silver Eagles, TONS of rolls of pennies , nickels etc Many of the boxes were not even opened, so I found a lot of invoices of what he paid I have all the books, I became quite addicted to things like Morgans, of which my dad never bought, & found as I sold off his stuff, that I was lucky to get back half of what I knew he paid If my dad had never bought a coin, as he hoped to leave to his children, and just put that money into a wooden chest, his children would have gotten at least 75,000 more in inheritance But it was his money, he had every right to dream, but I wanted to mention, I am from the Springfield Ma area, & there is a Coin Exchange at 524 Allen Street in Springfield Ma, owned by a man named "Euclid Desrochers III" who treated me so fairly & so honestly He is one of those GOOD GUYS out there that you talk about Maybe you've met at Shows Thanks for your info Comment from : @paradislarry |

I think the great great grandfather founder of Temu made this coin in his house while working in California😂😂😂 Comment from : @chaicharin |

I have a tenth of an Oz 1853 Gold piece is an octacon shape the reverse has California on top a star in the middle and below the star is the word gold, can't find it in my mega red book, possibly a token? Has no monetary value minted on it,I'm sure they may be other books out there, thanks Comment from : @mikesemones8333 |
What a lovely problem to have! Comment from : @rolandocastaneda4429 |
I'm not a fan of PCGS way over rated! With todays A-I maybe set a standard instead of taking the word of different grade companies You have a Great eye Daniel I trust your grades Thanks for showing us! Comment from : @markwilliams5811 |
What a bummer, still a great coin, and I would be proud to own one Comment from : @steveib8118 |
Wow! That's a shame that happened It's really great it got caught and you put this video out because you had the potential of really disappointing a customer who would be telling others about a bad experience if it got caught after a deal was completed I'm really surprised that for a certain level coin like that multiple human eyes weren't checking it out before and after it was put in a holder Seems like the kind of thing they would be letting all the graders look at in person to get the experience before it was shipped back to you Comment from : @PatriciaMaroney |
As usual great job sir Comment from : @ajmartineau8221 |
Thanks for the video I have an 1869 half dollar with 13 stars Comment from : @markkirkland8342 |

Love the California gold Comment from : @iamgabriel5823 |
If the coins are graded by a "team" effort this should never happen But honestly if they fix it and pay for shipping and re-submission id be happy with that That is the least they can do imo Comment from : @jp27whodey31 |
your late for 3yrsto know Comment from : @akita853 |

Does PCGS know what they are doing??? I've received a few mistakes from them as well Comment from : @wulfgar9119 |
Enjoy your videos Keep up the good work Comment from : @BLayman-zh1cq |
That's a whopper of a mistake for PCGS to make I have to wonder why they didn't double check that It could have started with something as simple as a typing error but there is a reason for more than one person to look at the high end coins to verify them Thank you for highlighting this! Comment from : @TheQuickSilver101 |
I’m glad you are honest and not taking advantage of the wrong label by PCGS like some might likely do Have a great day Comment from : @deanr1963 |
That's why I trust you Daniel, over any grading company Comment from : @b12y5e |
there's a lot of fake I don't even watch I don't thin the ebay , Because, they never know what the story of One coin😂❤ Comment from : @akita853 |
Thankyou 👍 Comment from : @haroldmclean3755 |
Daniel, this might be something that machine vision (wrongly called artificial intelligence) could do The grading services could catch errors in attribution before returning items to the customer Comment from : @mikebarushok5361 |
Sometimes mistakes can be made good thing you caught it i hope PCGS will acknowledge there mistake and fix that quickly Comment from : @cweedcoins1640 |
Imagine working there and finding a piece so rare that it has a population of 1 Wouldn't you be like "hey so and so, check this out! We got a submission thats only the 2nd one in existence!" You would think that would be the talk of the shop that day Yet anyone doing a cursory comparison would notice the difference 🤷♂️ Comment from : @32Umzy |
That's a wild one! The wrong person would've went crazy with that one, haha Comment from : @noobismatic |
Well done Daniel Comment from : @BlueWaterSTAX |
Send it back for revising Comment from : @johnmurphy4323 |
