To mister Jennings: you speak about a lot of research: I don't know any research about this principle of 70-20-10 I like to know which actual evidence based research you're talking about :-) Comment from : @vandammedirk4488 |

Interesting concept, and i do agree that the best way of learning is by doing However, what evidence is out there to support that 70 (more or less) of the learning is gained through experience, why not 50 or 80? brbrMy challenge to this concept as well is that the employee needs information/knowledge to apply during the experience or on the job Is the 10 really enough? This is normally delivered by trainings, articles, online content take for an example an accountant, they need to have formal education/learning to practice before they start working brbrEven if you look at roles that do not require educational requirements, such as a sales rep, they need to be exposed to content to familiarize them with the products/services they are selling, learn sales routines and how to handle objections Of course, a saleperson can watch and observe a peer or a manager handling a customer, nevertheless, one would not expect them to have a memory of the whole conversation or the content brbrIn my opinion, technology helps us bridge this knowledge gap by providing employees with the tools and resources to search and look for content As such, companies will still need to invest in providing learning content to their employees that enables them to do their jobsbrbrI am not sure what are you thoughts on this Comment from : @georgeabedrabbo9586 |

Great video which frames some of the work we've been doing in the business Thanks for making it so clear I'm sure 70:20:10 isn't concrete but is great for conceptualising the shift away from formal training Comment from : @prometheusxvii1761 |
|
What is it about L&D that we love to latch on to these bite size pop stats to explain why we do what we do or why we should change what we do It's all way too superficial and self-serving to be taken seriously by serious business people Used to be about informal learning (was it 80) - in what research context were these data gathered? Btw, Knowles was taking about self-direct learning 25 years ago so thats no news The previous post re context and learning carries far more weight Comment from : @malozijo |
|
Charles, since we did this video together I think both of our thinking has moved on 702010 is a great concept to accept learning needs to change and be more holistic but one of the things that has become evident is the need to modify the focus of different business outcomes with different weighting on formal/social/workplace Compliance education will likely remain formal whilst procedural knowledge will lean heavily towards workplace with leadership needing more social interventions Comment from : @SteveDineenatFuse |

Thanks, Steph Comment from : @jchjennings |

Great video I am using it to explain that Capacity Development (in the context of AID) is much more than training It also fits nicely with another passion of mine: social media for learning Thanks!

Great video! I still find it difficult to convince management to adopt/ invest in 70:20:10 Which companies have adopted 70:20:10? I would like to hear a CEO speak about why his company adopted 70:20:10 Comment from : @TimRuijters |
|
Great video!! btw - what software did you use to create this video? Comment from : @ishd24 |
|
but if they don't know that they have a problem to solve :) !!
Comment from : @majedoman |

I totally agree - especially the argument that you can not and should not manage the informal workplace learning - just help facilitate it
This will definitely help me get this across to my boss (CTO)
Thanks Comment from : @SharonGil-hopejoy |
