Well, these pictographic way of representing Chinese characters got it to be easily understood works with very few characters A person might be cheated into thinking that that's how all of it works when it coined to characters If you learn few characters it can be easy to dismantle them in that way but when you reach 1000, 2000, 3000, and so on I don't think it will be of any use Nevertheless this helps with those few characters but I don't think you will find any relationship in many characters to why they mean such and such a thing

Recognizing characters or learning words & phases in any language is a matter of word frequency In a typical newspaper you encounter a number of characters Some may only appear once or twice but you can guess what the meanings are by looking at the radical that forms the character, other words & phrases they are sitting beside or the overall meaning of a sentence / idea in a passage of text There are characters that are rarely used and tend to be associate with specific pieces of old Chinese literature Like learning an older form of English from the time of Shakespeare The objects or ideas that these old words referred to may be lost to historybrReading text online is much easier than from printed materials The words & phases you don't know you simply Cut & Paste into an online dictionary Nowadays people tend to recognize difficult characters but don't necessarily remember how to write them because of the increase use of electronic devices for messaging People will enter text phonetically and choose the correct characters from a list I watched an old Taiwanese show "大學生了沒" about a group of foreign students learning Chinese and came to this conclusionbrOn top of learning many characters, the Chinese uses a lot of 4-character proverbs in their writing You can spend over a year learning many of the more common ones

This is amazing But, she uses both simplified and traditional words and some words have multiple meanings I understand that she wants to get people interested in learning Chinese, but it's really not easy at all once you delve into it Although, this might help you recognize meanings of SIMPLE words easier with pictures and association methods brbrFor example: 从 - meaning to follow also means "from" This is the simplified version of the word The traditional way to write 从 is 從 With the traditional way, you can't really use her explanation of one person following another person as you can see and the other problem is not knowing when a word is simplified or traditional
