It really ended up becoming a great film in its final cut! Really underrated by its reception, I thought It's one of Ridley Scott's most unique films! A real life family drama entangled in the world of organized crime and the international oil industry Scandals and lawsuits aside, as an actor, Kevin Spacey, I'm sure gave a great performance in the initial cut At the same time I am so glad that the recast was Christopher Plummer He really made an amazing Getty and made him strangely likeable despite his controlling, greedy, obsessive nature This trailer hinted that Spacey's portrayal might have been more cold, reptilian, and hard through and through Perhaps in the vein of the John Doe, Frank Underwood, Lex Luthor-type characters he had played, previously And Plummer didn't have much time to prepare, but he nailed it! Michelle is a legend in this too!

There was a lot of input with people saying Getty was miserly And that is supposed to be bad? Yes, it is uncomfortable to people who are affected by his miserliness People all the sudden become officianados with other people’s money and how they should spend it It sucks for his grandsons But I actually commend Getty’s tactic He was very shrewd and right All of a sudden his whole family becomes a target of ransom and blackmail I’m sure Getty have to deal with this even within his own family Turns out the real kid and his father are losers with a rich father You’re not popular if you don’t make people happy with your own money 😂😂😂

Why did the studio originally want Spacey to play Getty in the first place? He's not even the right age, so they had to spend so much extra effort on makeup / CGI or whatever, for a subpar visual result (Spacey looks terrible and unconvincing here) Plummer wasn't a no-name actor either

It was an effective film but there were way too many discrepancies to the actual events I also found the cast kind of hammy and almost childish JP Getty III was too blonde and too girlish to be remotely believable Plummer and Williams were amazing as always but the script was just too hammy The FX “Trust” 10 episode limited series was far better overall
