It used to be that the price was spot x face value So if spot was $2457, a dime would cost $245, or a quarter $615 IDK how that relates to the insane premiums nowadays As for halves costing more, it's because there are less of them They were the main target for melting during the Hunt Brothers scheme, so it reduced their numbers by a lot Dimes are the least likely to be counterfeited, so I try and buy more of them They also break down into smaller denominations if money becomes worthless and you need some eggs Comment from : @UrbanGardeningWithDAHanks14

My LCS charges a higher premium for half dollars I asked why and they stated that it was the common practice As a result, I don’t stack as many of those and stick mainly with nickels, dimes, and quarters Lowest premiums, of course, on War Nickels I’m not sure why they’re so unpopular I can buy them, generally, within 3 of spot and don’t think they’ll be hard to liquidate at a fair price when the time comes; my LCS regularly is sold out Comment from : @38wheat40

How do you calculate the effect of worn-out coins? Do you weigh junk silver? 14 dimes per ounce applies to new weight, how much is lost with circulated coins (on average)? 5? or more? Comment from : @loueckert4970

most of the LCS's near me (south eastern PA) treat halves different from quarters and dimes especially Walkers and Benjies 64 kennedys are often lumped in but not the others and in my opinion rightly so in fact its often as much as 200 face different especially for benjamins Comment from : @dukenukem001
